Issue 1:
I’m trying to dual boot ZorinOS from a usb drive into a 30 GB unallocated partition on my PC running Windows 10 Pro as the main OS. I created my bootable media with Universal USB Installer. The first ZorinOS menu that appears after I select the thumb drive from the boot manager is fine, I selected “try or install Zorin OS”, but after that the screen just goes black, with purple and green coloured bars at the top and white dots and dashes further down. Here’s a photo of it Pasteboard - Uploaded Image
It seems as though the screen input is bugged, but I don’t want to risk any input in case it’s a menu and I end up selecting something that overwrites my PC. This is the second time I’ve tried to dual boot with Zorin, the first time I didn’t get any menus, just a similar black screen with green and purple bars, but the white dots and dashes, that I believe are text, filled the entire lower three quarters of the screen and scrolled periodically for about two hours before I shut my PC down and booted back to Windows.
Between the first and second attempt, I deleted the disk image from the thumb drive before reinstalling it using universal usb editor and formatting it FAT 32.
Issue 2:
I found the official installation instructions at Install Zorin OS - Zorin OS flashed my thumb drive with balenaEtcher and my Zorin ISO and it became invisible to file explorer. Opened up disk manager and it had a 4MB healthy EFI system partition with the other 29 GB unallocated, tried to boot from it in boot manager but it doesn’t even appear as an option. Had to clean it with diskpart and it assign it a drive letter to make it usable again.
After drive clean, I re flashed with balenaEtcher, tried to boot again, still didn’t show up. Upon return to Windows, drive is invisible again, but this time I can’t clean it. DiskPart repeatedly errors access denied to thumb drive. I can create a simple volume in the unallocated partition of the thumb drive, but formatting it fails, Virtual Disk Manager required file could not be found, or access denied, an event has been generated. Check system events, Windows Defender setting ServiceStartStates has been switched from 0x1 to 0x0, which is a little suspicious. I also tried creating a recovery drive on the usb, but that failed too.
I've ordered a new usb, but I'm not sure how to progress from here.
