Just installed 18 core, & so far the only icon I can figure out how to get on my desktop is Trash. Is there a standard rule of thumb for others, or is it a different process for each??
Are you talking about a downloade icon theme? If so you need to extract the package to ~/.icons
Go in the Zorin Startmenu and make a Right-Click on a Program. There You should see the Option ''Add to Desktop''.
Thanks, Ponce De Leon - that worked for the items currently in the start menu, but what about the other programs & apps that I haven't reinstalled yet? Will they typically show up in the start menu too?
Thanks Storm. Actually just referring to individual program icons for desktop
When you install an app with the software center, the app is usually added to the Zorin start menu during installation and then you can add it to the desktop if you want.
Only when you install apps on other ways e.g. you download the app as appimage from a website, you need to create a launcher in start menu or use a special tool which creates the launcher for you.
You can put the downloaded file of an appimage directly to the desktop to launch it, but then the app is not shown in the apps overview of the start menu or app grid.
They should yes. An Exception would be AppImages. These will not be installed, they run by themself - like a protable Version of a Program in Windows.
And for the Case an installed Program shouldn't create a Startmenu Entry, You can add it manually with Main Menu, too. But normally, when You install a Program that should be created automatically.
