Zorin Core 17 on two computers. Desktop icons randomly move upward. When I turn icons off/on or switch mode to light or dark, they move back.
Perhaps they are afraid of the dark?
Yeah, sounds like a bug.
This is a bug with the desktop extension. From what I can tell, it happens when the desktop loads up and then there's a shift in the display resolution. Forcing the icons to recalculate their position fixes the issue. Here, I did manually from the command line; I suppose changing themes does the same thing:
OK, I switched to "Desktop Icons: Neo". Seems to be working, so far. Adds a few features, which I don't use.
While I was at it, I updated the ancient Trash icon that Zorin uses. Do you remember galvanized steel garbage cans? I once took one apart to repair giant holes in the floor of my original Ford Fiesta.
Protip: If you hate the big, ugly squares Workspace Indicator puts on your taskbar, use Panel Scroll to easily scroll thru workspaces.
you know ... i read all this "issues" on core or pro
i don't have any issues like that in Lite
just saying ...
Actually, I have two mini bugs.
With Blur My Shell (you really need it to get rid of those ugly borders), the Start Menu search box has white text in light mode which is unreadable. No biggy since I always hit the Super key to do search.
And this, which was even the case in V16, when bonking a window on the top of the screen, it often does not maximize. This is fixed when Tiling Assistant is enabled.
So my advice to the Z brothers;
*Switch to "Desktop Icons: Neo" (seems to be the latest and best fork)
*Turn on Tiling Assistant by default (just turn off all the features, you'll still get corner windows)
*Install Blur My Shell by default and fix the search box text
*Install Tweaks
*Install Extension Manager
*Install nautilus-admin (gives you a right-click option to open files and folders as admin)
*Switch from Workspace Indicator to Panel Scroll
FYI: I have Zorin Core installed on four computers, albeit old ones. Dell and Lenovo biz desktops.
That made me chuckle. Reminded me of "The Flintstones" foot powered cars with legs running through the floor.
Body rot used to be the death of cars a few years back, now it seems to be failed tech (e.g. ECU's etc) that is too costly to repair/replace or emissions legislation that seems to be the route to the breakers yard for otherwise solid vehicles. But that is another story unrelated to this thread.
