I like Zorin 17.1

I bought Zorin OS Pro on 08.08.2024.
The reason:

  1. I want to support the developers with this purchase

  2. I have often tried to switch to Linux with Ubuntu, Mint etc. I get along with Zorin.

  3. it looks nice and for me as a long time Windows user it is easier to understand than other distros.

My devices like TC Helicon Go XLR and Stream Deck work well.
I really like Zorin and I hope that I will soon be able to do without Windows 11 completely.

Currently Zorin OS 17 Pro Dual Boot with Windows 11.

Welcome to the forum @Dexxa - there are lots of different nationalities on the forum, but as an English teacher, I can tell you that your English is fine!

Hello @0Picass0 ,

thanks for the feedback, I am currently happy with my Zorin OS Pro installation. I have hardly started Windows 11 in the last few days.

Everything is perfect, only one important program for me I can't use on Zorin and I haven't found a solution for it yet.

I use Zeta Producer for my website design and it only runs on Windows :scream: :sob:

You could make a .vbs file to get your activation key of Windows 11, then download Windows 11 Media creation tool and run it as a Virtual Macjine with virt-manager in Zorin, then install Zeta Producer to your vm.

@swarfendor437 ,

Which VM do you recommend for Zorin to use Windows 11?
I found VirtualBox as a Zorin OS package in the software, is it suitable?

Personally I find virt-manager the better option. Install synaptic package manager from Software, launch synaptic then search for virt-manager. I covered how to use synaptic package manager in the Unofficial Manual for Zorin 17 Core.
If you intend to run multiple vm's you need to change the location from /var to a newly crearted folder in your /home directory. When I was working from home using Devuan, I named it 'storage' but you can call it whatever you want.

There's also the option of Boxes in software.

Very basic VM prog but seems to work well.
I run windows and various distro's with it with no prob.
For trials only though. Worth a try if it helps.

Hello @Freeway

Boxes looks easy for me as a beginner. :sunglasses:
I'll give it a try, thank you very much

@swarfendor437 , when you mention your

Could you add a hyperlink to it for easy access? I'd enjoy reading it but don't know where to find it. Thanks!

Sure thing.

The first week with Zorin OS is over and I only needed Windows once in between.

Wow, a great system, and I hope Zorin continues to grow and becomes one of the bigger distributions. :sunglasses:

I am happy to have found Zorin OS 17 Pro.
As an eternal Windows user, it was easy to swap.
Windows is now only used for one program in dual boot, all other programs have been replaced with this distro. :sunglasses:

Unfortunately Zeta Producer does not run on Linux or Wine :sob:

Here is the program https://www.zeta-producer.com

Maybe the developers of Zorin can somehow include the program so that it runs in Wine, Play on Linux? :upside_down_face:

I love my new operating system :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

I'm afraid Zeta Producer is the issue in that they don't provide a Linux version. It is understandable in part because Windows holds the global market. However, software producers vary, for example Qoppa (now owned by Apryse), and code-industry.net produce pdf Suites for all platforms. WINE and PlayOnLinux are independent of Zorin. You could contact codeweavers.com and request they look at developing crossover to include support for Zeta Producer. Codeweavers are the developers of WINE. You can download a trial version of Crossover for 14 days.

Did you tried instead of Wine Bottles?

No, I haven't tested it myself yet, the Zeta Producer forum says it doesn't work.

I am still new to the Linux world and am a bit afraid of destroying something on the Zorin system by trying to install Zeta Producer via Wine :disappointed:

sorry for my bad english, my school days (come from Germany) are many years ago

@Ponce-De-Leon , a little help from an English teacher, if you'd like it? I have noticed that you make one mistake regularly but it is an easy one to remedy:
"Did you tried instead of Wine Bottles?", for example. So, do is the first verb, which you have to conjugate, in this case into the past form did. The next verb is try which is not conjugated, it stays in the bare infinitive without to. "Did you try Bottles instead of Wine?", the word order has to reflect the option you're suggesting rather than what has been mentioned already.

This isn't the place for an English lesson but if you would like a little help, send me a PM / DM. You already have a good understanding of English and I'd be happy to help you.

Thanks for the Offer! But only this little Lesson reminds me of the Grammatics Lessons in German and English (and a bit Russian and French, but from this is nothing anymore in my Head, haha!) in the School Days. And I'm VERY happy that this is behind me, hahaha!

A couple of things. One, my recommendation would be to just set up Windows in a virtual machine and use Zeta Producer that way. Much simpler that way. Or if you're willing, use an online service like Squarespace. That way, you can do everything you need to do online, as opposed to using a platform-centric piece of software, which would limit your options. If you want, use Alternativeto.net to search for Linux-based options. Give that a shot. Two, like you, I have used other OSes. I started out with Zorin OS Pro. I liked it very much. I continued learning about Linux and the command line. I learned about different desktop environments (GNOME, Cinnamon, and so on). You get the idea. I switched to Linux Mint, and provided some sincere feedback to the developers in another thread (feel free to search for it on the forum). But I have since moved back to Zorin OS 17 Pro. I like its simplicity and overall look. I like its relative ease of use. I appreciate how the developers have taken a lot of GNOME stuff and put it together in an easy-to-use OS. I recommend either Zorin or Mint to users, but I prefer Zorin in some important ways, even if I do have to do a little more work to get it to where I'd like for it to be (compared to Mint). Now I use only .DEB files to install software where possible; same for verified Flatpaks only. My feedback to the developers still stand, and I hope that they will listen and show effort in future iterations of Zorin OS (be it version 17.2 or 17.3 or even 18). I may switch to Pop!_OS when their COSMIC desktop environment becomes stable, but for now, it's Zorin OS all the way. Familiar and easy to use. It's interesting. I never thought I'd distro-hop as much as I did before. I used Windows for years and years, and didn't go back in between 95, 98, XP, Vista, 7, and so on. I moved on with each Windows version, and didn't move back, even though it became harder to use Windows (because of poor design choices by Microsoft) with each release (e.g., 8, 8.1, 10, and 11). The only time I'd reinstall Windows was if I felt it was needed for "spring cleaning" or whatever. And that was far and few in between. But with Linux, I've distro-hopped multiple times. Trying this and that. But Zorin OS has always stuck with me in the back of my head. That's a high compliment to the developers of this OS. Again, I hope they listen to user feedback some more, and keep on developing a solid OS for everyone. Anyway, good luck with your Linux journey on Zorin OS.

One month Zorin OS

and I don't want to go back to Windows 11.
ZorinOS is really perfect for me and Windows 11 hasn't been started for 4 weeks :grinning:

How can I completely uninstall Windows 11 without having to reinstall ZorinOS?
Is there an easy way?

Best regards
Marcus
