I tried installing Zorin OS 18 with my Nvidia 5050 graphics card, but it failed.

Good afternoon everyone! Today, I tried to install Zorin OS 18 on my computer. My configuration is: TUF GAMING B550M PLUS WI-FI 2 motherboard, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core, Geforce RTX 5050.

When I selected the third option to start the installer along with the video card drivers, my video card fans started at 100% usage, and my monitor screen went completely black. I tried the first option, and the same thing happened. I tried using chatgpt to see if I could get some answers; it offered me some commands to enter, and the fans stopped at 100% usage, but the screen remained black. I disabled secure boot and started in legacy mode, but that didn't work either. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Welcome to the Forum!

I would suggest the Following Way:

  • Disabled Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS
  • If Windows is still installed, disable Fast Start-Up in Windows
  • Download the Zorin ISO and verify the Checksum
  • Create the Bootstick (Ican recommend Rufus when You have a Windows Machine; otherwise Ventoy would be an Option)
  • Depending if Your BIOS is in UEFI or Legacy Mode, choose for the Partition Sheme GPT for UEFI or MBR for Legacy
  • Start the Stick and choose the first Option (Try or Install Zorin). this will install Zorin without Nvidia Drivers. And install Zorin offline or at least without installing Drivers and Updates. You can do that after the Installation.
  • When installed and rebooted and You are on the Login Screen, choose for Your Nvidia Card Xorg (Click on Your Profile so that the Passord Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see a Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'') and then log in. Then update Your System and install the Nvidia Drivers in the ''Additional Drivers'' Tab in Software & Updates or over the Terminal.

A post was split to a new topic: Install Error with Bootstick

Those instructions don't work. I tried all 3 options and I get black screen. I can hear it reach the desktop but I can't see anything. We need the Nividia 570 drivers rolled into the ISO.
I can install CachyOs no problem, but I have this issue with all Ubuntu distros. I have an Nivida 5070 and I tried the latest release r3 of Zorin.

Try to enable 4G Decoding in your BIOS.
