Intel B580 graphics issue

I'm not that familiar with AMD graphics cards. Maybe it helps if you open the grub menu by pressing the esc key several times when booting (if you are using dualboot you don't need it, grub is displayed there) and then boot in safe graphics mode? Then you could add a ppa for the current mesa drivers and update your system.

Its not AMD, its an Intel one. Not an integrated.

On the Intel B580 one.

Oh I would like to try in safe graphics mode. There is only a Recovery mode for the kernel. I dont think this is the right one, is it?

Okay when there is no option for safe graphics then you can make it this way:

Go to the last point >on other computers >after installing Zorin OS

Then you add "nomodeset"

(until point 6)

I am a German. So, post it please. Maybe it helps.

I will sent it this evening, because I am still at work.
Hopefully the nomodeset will work. I was planning to fully migrate from windows to Zorin, because now 99% of my games work on Linux. The last thing that stopped me was one game that had Kernel level Anti Cheat and denied to allow their games to run on Linux. And since I dont play it anymore, I want to fully move. But now my new graphics card is not really compatible with the LTS Version of Ubuntu. For example, ChatGPT said that the dependencies are too new for the 22 Ubuntu Version and its risky to install newer ones.
Maybe Zorin OS 18 will change things up, I hope it comes out before Windows 10 drops. Then I could persuade some of my colleagues and customers to switch away from Spycrosoft . XD

Hey I found something interesting!
https://www.reddit.com/r/IntelArc/comments/1k1occ2/comment/mnod27u/

The user states that Kernel 6.8 and 6.9 have problems with the Intel Arc B580. This explains why Zorin os is not using it.

Now the only riddle left is, why the newer Kernel wont boot XD.

I will post the look later (the german log).

And sorry that I am bothering you. I think its best to ask directly, because I didnt find any answers online, and thanks to you, I could solve a problem (The laptop one with the touchpad) that no one ever did!

Hey some news! I can boot with the newer Kernels, when I add Nomodeset. At least the new kernel is loading. What can I do now?

Add a ppa for mesa drivers (kisak mesa stable or kisak mesa fresh or oibaf)

Kisak stable:
"sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/turtle"
"sudo apt update"

Kisak fresh:
"sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa"
"sudo apt update"

Try it with kisak stable first.

And does Your Touchpad works now?

Yeah, the touchpad thing is finished ^^ . The current problem is on my normal pc with the Intel Arc.

I installed it, after sudo apt update, it only states that everything is up to date.

(Here for Ponce-De-Leon, the german terminal entry: )

@-System-Product-Name:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/turtle
sudo apt update
Paketquelle: »deb Index of /kisak/turtle/ubuntu jammy main«
Beschreibung:
This is a slow moving mesa PPA.

The goal of this PPA is to provide newer mesa with the maximum amount of time for regressions to be resolved in upstream mesa. However, this comes at the cost of absolutely no support. Please do not report any issues with this PPA.

If you encounter bugs, ppa-purge this PPA and reproduce the issue with a newer mesa PPA before reporting it upstream.

Updates will occur between the release of the next mesa series and the end of life for the current mesa series.

This PPA includes select non-invasive early backports from the kisak-mesa fresh PPA (kisak-mesa fresh : kisak). Deviations from upstream packages are listed on the package details page.

--- Removal ---

It's strongly recommended to remove this PPA before upgrading to a newer Ubuntu release or using another mesa PPA.

sudo apt install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:kisak/turtle

Note: Using ppa-purge with Ubuntu derivatives needs to include -d <based_on_name> to work safely. For example, Linux Mint 20 is based on Ubuntu Focal, so that would make it:

sudo ppa-purge -d focal ppa:kisak/turtle

--- Donations ---

I can't accept donations and any random donation site account is a scam. If you have some extra money burning a hole in your pocket, please consider sending it to a charity of your choice (for the poors, animals, whatever else you may think it might need it), then send Oibaf a note that I stole the suggestion from his PPA.

Then run "sudo apt upgrade" and then reboot.

I ran sudo upgrade. Sadly still doesnt work, I still have to use nomodeset.
Well, I run the pc in dual mode, till zorin os 18 is out with the newer Ubuntu version. Shouldnt be take long till Zorin OS 18 is coming, I heard its planned before the win 10 support end.

You could try it with the kisak fresh ppa.
First remove the installed ppa:

"sudo apt install ppa-purge"
"sudo ppa-purge -d jammy ppa:kisak/turtle"
"sudo apt update"

Then add ppa kisak fresh and update and upgrade your system, then reboot.

Or the Earnst Almost Stable:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ernstp/mesarc

sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

@community-moderators Would you please split the thread from post 30 on in a new thread about Intel Arc B580? It's not the same machine as at the beginning of the thread.

Wish granted.

Ah perfect! Thank you, its now better readable ^^ .
Well, I will try out both ppa“s , maybe it will work. If not, I wait for Zorin OS 18.
