Whenever you need to backup your home folder, always be sure to press Ctrl+ H to view hidden files, then Ctrl+ A to select everything, Ctrl+ C to copy to clipboard, then Ctrl+ V when you are in your external backup folder. The hidden folders hold all your application settings.
My only other comment/advice would be to ditch Firefox and use either one of its 2 forks, LibreWolf or zen.
In terms of not seeing GRUB I did have success once in Zorin 18 by using Boot repair from live version on Ventoy which put the timeout to 10 seconds and made the GRUB menu visible.
zen takes a bit of getting used to as it uses vertical tabs. It is still in beta, but uses the current releases of Firefox that it is forked from. The other element that takes a bit of getting used to is the disappearing bar at the top of the window to give more real estate to the web page. LibreWolf is a more traditional layout. LibreWolf has no telemetry whatsoever and it too uses the most current engine.
Currently, most browsers hide the familiar menu bar. To see the menu bar in any browser, press F10. Then go to 'View | menu bar' to make permanent by selecting the check box, and also 'show bookmarks' to. My preferred look.
The only drawback with Firefox browsers can be with certain printer drivers. For example, attempting to download Linux drivers for Epson printers, when you click on download, it splatters the driver code in the open web page instead of downloading, so is best to have a chrome-based browser to hand like Vivaldi.
I think 'any' in this case means any Gecko - Firefox based browser. This will not work on Chromium based, like Brave. In those, the menubar is gone and they will not let it back in the gates (annoying!)
I would go with LibreWolf and Vivaldi for online banking but only on computer. The bank site is the only site visited and all history cleared on exiting.
This is one of the privacy measure that come with RFP (Resist Fingerprinting). Our stance is that if you care about fingerprinting protection you should never alter RFP behavior in any way.
If you still want the dark theme for web content, check whether your favourite websites allow to set it manually.
Unfortunately for me light themes is a no no .... at my age anything with a white background makes it very hard for me to tolerate the brightness .... my FreeOffice TextMaker gives me fits .... LOL .... thank god I only need or use it for copy & paste .... to bad LibreWolf looks interesting .....
I used to use Vivaldi a while back but it got kinda heavy so I now use Brave Origin .... works great so far and is pretty light .... most of the old BS has been removed .....
If they want to be very controlling and strongly opinionated over something that vague and diffuse; they can go work directly for Gnome. Or Microsoft if they want to relax slightly.
Then I would go with zen as you can make it whatever you want. It has a default dark theme. It is whether you can manage with vertical tabs and autohiding of the minimise, maximise and close symbols.
On a side note of security, I remember reading an article online that attack vectors increased once the GUI arrived to computers. Having said that, having been on a placement in Social Services IT, with Social Services only using a terminal based office suite, OfficePower from ICL did have an instance of a Virus Attack, I think from an email. Even the mail client was terminal based. But I suspect the real reason is, it wasn't truly a terminal. Why? It was running on VT320+ (VT standing for Virtual Terminal) which was hosted on Windows for workgroups 3.11.
Yes swarf that looks great but I just realized that if I want to print a document I will have to change my printer settings to Gray Scale or something or I'm gonna use up a whole bunch of black ink for the background guess that's why they have white backgrounds .... LOL ....
Speaking of FreeOffice it looks like the Free is being replaced by a paid version Called SoftMaker Office NX unless they will still put out the free version .....
The dark mode should not affect the background color of the print. Have you tried to print something and ithe page was black with white text, or did you just thought that you have to change that?
If it prints with a black background there may be setup a black background for the page, not only dark mode.
Interesting I'll check it out later to see if those instructions will also work on my FreeOffice 2024 TextMaker .... according to SoftMaker Office NX having a black page will not effect the print out I guess the black page reverts back to white when printed .....
Yea I'm not really interested in using a paid version as I only do simple typing and layouts using a document creator "I'm a Simple Kinda Man" ..... like this song by Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man ..... LOL
