Left Zorin; some heartfelt feedback for Zorin OS

Cool! :sunglasses:

Interesting. Perhaps Cosmic might one day be the base for Zorin. It seems it might be more easily customisable than Gnome. It won't be ready for a while yet, though.

Cosmic would be an excellent replacement DE for Zorin.

For what it is worth I have previously been on Zorin OS for almost 3 years and during this time I have used Cinnamon DE exclusively ..... I have recently switch over to Mint and have had 0 problems with it ..... everything is just there ..... even an apt to make a bootable thumb drive and to also format like drive in the Menu ..... no additional apts to download and learn .....

I would like to take the time to thank everyone on here who helped me in my journey from Win to Linux .... it was sometimes a very rough trip with many many hours of hard work for everyone ..... including me ..... THANK YOU .....

I will be reading the board occasionally ..... but as some will be happy to know ...... not asking any more questions here as I am now using Mint instead of Zorin .....

Oh by the way ..... Storm ..... some of your icon sets will work on Mint Wilma but I haven tried all of the ones I have downloaded yet .....

Welcome to Mint! If the Zorin brothers listen to the feedback I've provided them, and do it for Zorin OS 18, I'll happily come back. But for now, it's Mint for me. Again, welcome!

That isn't cute?

When we have problems in Windows, due to lack of options we learn to live with them.

In Linux, we switch distributions.

Long live to distro hopping.

Mint's LMDE rocks for me and no Ubuntu. I don't dislike Ubuntu - it just happens to be I prefer Debian and LMDE is Debian-only with added Flatpak support. Otherwise, MX Linux or Q4OS would be my next choice. It is reliable, easy to use, fast, and good for new/advanced users. I especially like that Mint has the upgrade tool. Also, I got the recent new desktop from Cinnamon automatically back-ported. There's too much to like on Mint.

I've recently installed LMDE on an old spare machine and it has been working pretty decently. So much so, that I've actually used it as well to replace Zorin OS 16 from another computer that was due for an upgrade...

Zorin OS comes up on top when it comes to user-friendliness as it's quite intuitive, but I can see myself using LMDE in the future for new installations.

It isn't actually back-ported. It is updated. That is a nice Point on Linux Mint (Ubuntu or Debian-Base) that they get continiously Desktop Updates because the Linux Mint Developers are the developers of Cinnamon, too. It is similar to KDE Neon.

I would use it, too. But the cinnamon Desktop isn't really my Thing. Oh, when You look for an interesting Debain-Based OS, I can name SpiralLinux.

I stopped distrohopping.
I started watching on things what i need and using on operating system.
Besides they are all similar - kernel, package managers and desktop enviroment.
Diffrents package manager and desktop.
Some are more usable for server and someone are usable for desktop office or gaming.

Next version Zorin will be more compatibility with Wayland?

Theoretically yes. When it is based on Ubuntu 24 it gets Gnome 46. And in Gnome 46 is Explicit Sync integrated (hopefully Canonical build it in). And when You then use a Nvidia Driver 555+ there is Explicit Sync integrated, too. So with this Combination - and it have to be the Combination, one of this alone isn't enough - Wayland with Nvidia should offer a way better Experience.

From this away in a more common Sense Wayland Stuff should be more integrated in the Desktop Environment, too. So, there should be Improvements, too.

And when HDR is there it comes another Thing why they don't change. I don't give a lot to such Things.
