StarTreker. Tell us how you really feel....lol I agree with almost everything you mentioned. You have to keep in mind those companies not only pay off elected officials to keep the status quo, but work hand in hand with one party.

I would assume that most people, if not everyone really liked XP. I put it into VirtualBox recently, but I did something wrong with the 'Activation' bypass and have to try it again. And that's for a couple of old games and programs I seldom use, but want to there for when I want to use them.

My disenchantment hit high levels with the W8 debacle. Although at the time I was still on Vista, and just bought a pc with W10. The whole M$ attitude with W8 began my Linux interest, research. After I found all the packages I would need (Mainly a package to replace MS Money) I converted my Vista pc to Mint Cinnamon, then later XFCE) to give it a test drive. Wasn't that much longer that W10 was off my main pc replaced by ChaletOS, and eventually Zorin Lite.
That's my story... Maybe I should of saved that and wrote a book.....

Ohhhhh, you will find I can be quite passionate when the moment arrives.

I am not a fan of monopolies, nor the game they played as a child, that prepared them for their greedy ill gotten take overs. Yep Jeff, I will tell it like it is.

Ho Ho Merry Jeffness, he's getting fancy with having a go with the Windows XP in the box now.

I think Clippy is getting a little too excited for your return, since he knows all too well, that the last time he was relevant, was circa 2004!

But alas, that wonderful experience that we all remember when we were younger, just wasn't meant to be, when this happened.

If your screensaver is burning down, everything else is gonna melt with it. And I am sorry to say, you will not get to reap the benefits of that Energy Star rating, I think the energy being released greatly exceeds what it was drawing in the first place.

Yes, we all loved Windows XP, we all pretty much agree it was the best OS ever made. But we were forced to move on, and then this happened.

Solution, stay on Linux, its safer here!

Well, as long as a match is not lit, toasting all the code in git.

I dont miss windows at all, maybe for 2 games that ran a bit better compared to linux but other than that no.

A few days ago i thought maybe i should try if windows 11 can run on my machine...i was thinking...and thinking.

  1. Windows updates, it takes ages to download and install and it always requires rebooting.
  2. Alot of disk usage, the downloaded updates never get deleted (not after installing). I just sits there eating your storage.
  3. A stupid registery, everything that gets installed is registered. If you uninstall apps/games the registery does not get cleaned
  4. Spyware, dont have to mention anything do i ?
  5. Forced pre installed apps that cannot be deleted.
  6. My PlayStation 4 controller only works wired, i need ds4windows to emulate their xbox360 controller to get it to work wireless

I thought nah i stick with my linux installation :joy:. I dont care if 2 games are a bit less in fps then it was on windows. The fact that those games are running on linux is already great.

Since the launch of zorin os 16 i am windows free.

Kinda reminds me of the anti-virus programs where you can install a trial for free and suddenly you end up with 300 names of viruses they found on you computer .... yea right ...

I started out with Win way back when it was MSDOS and was a loyal fan until you couldn't deny updates any more some where around XP I believe at which point I tried Lindose in fact if it is still around I'm still a lifetime member .... but no-go

Win 7 came along and it is the first M$ OS I bought as I built my one and only desktop so I had to have an OS for it .... ran that for about 4 years or so until I managed to fry my 800 amp power supply by adding to many goodies ... 2 graphic cards .... 6 1TB HD's and other stuff I can't remember ....

After Win 7 I went to 8.1 which as already loaded on a new Acer laptop where I learned if you upgraded to Pro you could bypass the downloads also .... next adventure was Win 10 ... and my new Asus ROG gaming laptop ... again preinstalled and again upgraded to Pro for the same reason as 8.1 Pro .... so I have not excepted ANY downloads from M$ all this time ... I just downloaded drivers from manufactures websites if needed ....

Now I'm am using Zorin full time (when I don't manage to break it) and don't even open Win anymore .... so do I intend to delete Win .... probably not .... as this past experience has shown me that I can at least get to the board to find help when I completely FUBAR Zorin ... LOL

I haven't used Win10 more than a few days the last three months. I only did so to write out my school assignment on M$ Word with ProWriting Aid add-in working. Plus SuperDisplay is truely much more stable and refresh faster.

I am so glad to see so many loyal Linux users in here, you put a tear in my eye  because you all are amazingly stellar :star2: in my book.

Lets hope more good folks learn the error of their ways using Windows, and switch to Linux. We've already seen a bunch since Windows11 got announced, and we've seen yet more, for those who bought FrameWork notebook's.

Meanwhile I'm stuck to Windows due to the software I need to get my job done :frowning:
To overcome some of those shortcomings pointed out in this thread, I am advocating a VM Windows.

I'm a victim here. Damn. I can;t forget that only 3 file manager open but my system doesn't work. Think of resetting but cannot be done already? I said "Its time to switch to Linux."

Yeah. And if you want to completely remove it, go to registry one by one. Windows experience....

Others stick with Windows, though, because of work related. Example: for creating manga, this is just minimal work, clip studio paint is well known for this but linux doesn't have its version. Krita might do but its not for manga. I mean, clip studio paint is created for Manga (Manga Studio is its first name). 3D artist have Blender but when it comes to working as professional, 3DS Max and other propriety are the ones that is been looking for. Going to simple administrative tasks, I don't know for other countries but here, Excel, Word and Powerpoint is a must. (Though as far as I know, Canva replacing Powerpoint so...)

I also have software here solely for Windows, Clip studio paint. And I paid for it. hahahahhaha. The thing is even using something like wine or installation support for windows application by Zorin, it didn't install. I guess the heaviness of it can't stay in virtual. hahahhahahha

I see you are on the same boat I am on :ship:

I am thinking of writing a tutorial for VM Windows.
It seems not many people on this forum are aware of its convenience.

I beg to differ.

Pepper and Carrot is my favourite comic made with Krita and Inkscape.

Yeah, you can do it with Krita. But like I said, it doesn;t have the "manga features." I mean with it, the favorite of many, "manga perspective", brush set exclusive for manga, those patterns for manga etc. that is solely for manga. Well, artist can create it to Krita on their own, though added time. That's why Jump Manga of Medibang, Clipstudio Paint (former Manga Studio), Firealpaca and the likes are there so you will not think of that much. Vice versa, its hard to create digital painting to those softwares cause their focus is manga unlike with Krita, Ibis Paint and the likes. Inkscape like Illustrator is a vector graphic tool. Yes, you can create comics there, even you can create realistic portrait painting there, but it takes an effort.

Ah, I see.You are talking about the ease of use.
This comic writer uses Inkscape along side with Krita - for a good reason I suppose.

Yup. There are artists who do that. Before when I'm still a layout artist, I even use illustrator along with Photoshop to achieve better result, since most clients of my previous work are from the upper class. They need that kind of sophisticated style. Artists can do whatever style they want, choose whatever software since at the end of the day deadline and output are the important factor.

At some point maybe using Krita alongside with Inkscape is faster to that artist instead of using something like Clip Studio, especially if he/she isn't familiar with its shortcuts. In other words, still own preferences.

Well, i can easily adapt to anything. This isn't a problem much to me after all. hahaahahah

Besides the cost of Krita (zero) is no comparison to that of Photoshop. Good reason to be adaptive.

I still using W7 because have cool EULA. System is ok but safety it depends what you install inside. Corporation inside a system can tracking anything. Old military a computers still using windows 95. So where is the point if old operating systems working on military or NASA? Here in my country the offices using Windows 98 with administration lan.
