I tried finding help here first but didn't find similar situations so did a search on brave...
I'm trying to get a very old mouse to work on my laptop. It works on an old windows desktop so I know it should be good to go. It's a logitech with usb.
The search I did came up with this:

I want to know if this is something I should try? Moving to another usb port and restarting didn't work.
Hello, what is the brand and model of your mouse ?
There is no harm or risk in trying; so is definitely worth trying.
Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? You can check that with the Terminal Command echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
Also: Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
I tried the command I found in my search, but it didnt' work.

You can find that in BIOS.
Then, I would suggest to switch to Xorg to see if it behaves different. To do that, go to the Login Screen. Click there on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in and check if it changes anything.
Tried switching to Xorg but that didn't work.
Found the BIOS and secure boot is disabled.
Any other suggestions to try?
Hmm ... maybe it is some Power Saving Thing. Did You checked the BIOS if there are any Power Saving Options for the USB Ports? Also did You checked that all Ports are active?
All ports are active and working - just not with this mouse... I can plug the mouse in from my other laptop and that works fine. I just would like a mouse for both laptps
You say it is a logitech mouse. I would install solaar which was a package specifically written for Logitech devices.
Open a terminal (Just start typing Terminal in the search bar then press the Enter key to launch) and enter:
sudo apt install solaar
Tried the solaar... still not working...
Just another pointer, USB has a memory issue, changing to a different port will not work as the USB memorises which port a device is plugged into, so changing to another port will not work as USB will expect it to be present in the same port it was first attached to.
Are you plugging the mouse in before booting? GNU/Linux checks all devices before booting so adding it while the machine is running may not work.
Is it a trackball by chance?
Nope. Not a trackball. I've had it in the same port for some time now and I shut my computer off every night.
My bad! It is for wireless Logitech mice.
Is there no identification on the underside of the mouse? Can you upload a photo?

Using the Part number details you have a Logitech M510 wireless mouse.
So have you tried replacing the batteries for newer ones at all? I don't recognise the brand you have installed but I usually go for Duracell or Varta.
Just another thought, do you have legacy USB support enabled in the BIOS? If not enable it, if enabled, disable it and see if the mouse works with either legacy boot on or off.
If you go back to the first post you will see that @artcountry1 is able to use it on Windows machine not the Zorin one. So guess they have but the transceiver in to a USB slot on the Zorin machine and none work.
