I'm supposed to see a small phone on my task bar, but it never shows up. Instead I see a small camera at the top of the screen with a number for the photo and I can't find it anywhere.
Can you post a screenshot?
what i see when i plug my android in with usb cable to linux , on the phone it would ask something like
"file transfer , usb tethering ,midi ,ptp ,no data transfer"
i choose file transfer ,cause that's what i want to do right
on ur pc you'll see a pop up when u plug phone in ,something like connect to files, charge only whatever , i cant remember .
anyway , your phone should show up in file manager ...
the small camera thing u see , i have no clue about . never seen such phenomena
As @14nd said, you can connect your Android directly into your PC, click the "file sharing", or "transfer photos" and them open your phone just like any USB device. You can copy all your images over to your PC.
You can also use this method to debloat and clean up your phone. WhatsApp, for example, keeps "backed up copies" of every image you delete hidden! You have to delve deep to find them, and voice notes, doc's... delete them all - this will not affect any cloud back up you have.
I also deleted every bloatware app pre-installed, like Instagram, Facebook and Ticktok, as well as every app I do not use and don't deem useful. I'm using 22 GIG of 116 GIG, and it's been a while since I cleaned out the rubbish. it's an old phone now but it's sharp and snappy, and as long as I keep getting updates for it (had one last week), I've got no reason to consider changing it.
Keeping your photos backed up on your phone s really simple - just plug it in to your PC!
I get nothing on my phone screen re: file sharing or transfer photos.
OK, that image at the top of the screen is a notification that the phone is connected. Are you trying to use Zorin connect, or are you using USB?
What make and mode of phone are you using?
can you click on that block ?
if so , what you see then ?
have you tried ignoring the block thingy and see in file manager if your phone shows there ?
@Zooker , it's late here, so I'll take a look tomorrow and get back to you.
OK, thanks!
OK, images you have taken are usually in DCIM - this is the main storage area for photos taken on a phone. You need to open the DCIM folder to view images. Then just drag and drop to your preferred folder in Zorin or create a specific folder for the images you wish to copy.
Make sure you set the phone the appropriate file sharing mode. If it's not showing automatically, you can still adjust this by going into settings yourself:
@Zooker , looks like you have the answers you need.
if you're still stuck @0Picass0 me, OK? I'm sure the other guys will steer you right though. Good luck.
I've gone to Connected Devices but there is no USB option there. The only options are Bluetooth, Sharing Panel and Printing.
@Zooker, take your USB charging cable and plug it into your computer.
Plug the other end into your phone.
From the top of your phone screen drag downwards. you'll see a notification that your phone is charging - but in tiny letters it says "other options", including Transfer Data or Photos
If you click on Transfer Data you also have the option to transfer your photos
At the bottom of your Zorin home screen, towards the right, there is a little up facing arrow now, click on that (next to the WiFi):
This does not show the name of my phone, as it does in Windows, but it is my phone.
Click on it:
Click on internal shared storage:
DCM
Camera
Here are your pictures!
Just copy them into the Pictures Folder.
I hope that helps!
What is the make and model of the phone, and what version of Android are you on?
Sorry for the late reply, but there is nothing like you describe when I drag down on my phone screen. To hell with all of this Linux B.S. I'm looking for a new PC and going back to Windows. Thanks for your time and effort to help. I do appreciate it.
@Zooker , I'm really sorry you couldn't find it but I have to tell you - it isn't Linux, it is exactly the same process in Windows.
When I made those screenshots for you it was the very first time I'd done it on a Linux system, before that I've only ever done it in windows.
All I know is when I moved photos in Windows, the PC screen went dark and then opened with new photos and asked which ones I wanted to upload. Pretty simple.
