My zorin starting to act up

iv'e been on like 10 distros before and each and every time ,after some months of using when it's working great , weird stuff starts happening.
that's usually when i move on to another distro...
now with zorin i thought a hit the jackpot cause for months it's working great but lately a few little things starting to bother me .
1: every other week my brave browser icon would blank out on taskbar , it's there but i cant see it . it still works when i click on the unseen icon ( i know where its located ). then i have to remove it and add it again to be visible again,
2: lately none of programs i have open ,when i hit the minimise button ,it closes. it doesnt minimise
3: my network icon has disappeared from taskbar, again. easy to get back ,but why disappear 1st place ?

other than those things everything works great. i don't really want to start over with another distro ,just for it to start acting up after few months .
i'm starting to fear it's a linux thing ?

to keep my pc optimal i usually do these things once a week ( not sure if it's correct?)

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

sudo apt autoremove -y && sudo apt autoclean

use stacer to clean all ( its usually just cache )

am i missing something to keep my pc running smoothly?

PS : sorry i started the thread wanting to just like vent a bit (hence the feedback category), but at the end decided to ask a question lol ,

I personally don't use the -y because I like to see what will be updated and when it stops to confirm, I can take a Look at it.

i understand
i just use it cause i wouldn't know if it's ok to update a certain package or not
i come from a mindset that updated stuff is better than not updated stuff.
yes i know for the knowledgeable there's stuff they prefer not to update for some reason, i'm not that knowledgeable ,guess i just blindly trust the developers and update everything

Developers do make mistakes from time to time. Sometimes the consequences are harmless, maybe a bit annoying but bearable, while other times they can wreck your entire desktop environment (wreckage starts at 10:30).
It can get even worse than that, disrupting critical infrastructure and industries. And yes, sometimes, even in tragic accidents that result in loss of life. The relevant bit starts at 37:20 but it's a great presentation overall on the subject – pinging @Rikopara (this presentation is not as fun as the other one, but quite interesting, I think).

I'm not trying to shame you for not paying attention to a massive wall of text that scrolls by, I certainly understand the feeling of wanting the hard bits done for me. But, ironically, not getting rid of cached items that often may actually help keeping your system running smoother. Try to not get rid of cached artifacts (autoremoveand autoclean) for a while, see if that makes a difference in your experience.

At the very least, I hope I can convince you to keep between updates using something like Timeshift? You can restore your system to a prior state with it, which may help not only with bug fixing but also debugging.

But anyway, there are indeed ghosts in the shell. Computers are complex machines with a lot of intertwined components that can step in each other's toes. I've seen this with just about every operating system that I've ever used.

thanks for that , i'll see how that goes . I do use timeshift ,and did go back to a previous backup but same glitches remain.
mind you i only went back a few days in timeshift ,maybe i'll try going back like 2 months and see .

For this, I would honestly highly recommend that you switch to Nala due to its built in history, so if you DO update something that causes issues, or breaks something, you can go into the history and reverse the update. Also, it's not such "a wall of text" with Nala, you get a much clearer and concise picture of what is going on. Everything is much easier to see.

Also, as Zenzen said: Timeshift.

I hope you can resolve your issues with Zorin - I've not come across anything similar with Linux Mint or Zorin, so yeah, try leaving the cache as suggested, maybe it keeps having to regenerate the icons and other stuff it needs to run smoothly. If you keep having problems in different distros, it could just be that your cleaning habits are causing the issues.

Good Luck!!!

thanks
i did starting using nala few days back .
i do have timeshift ,but unfortunately it backups was for a few days back and then a few months ago (back to 16.xxx) . I think i fixed the backup settings now ...
but yea , i'm sorted for now . Will stop blindly "cleaning" everything in sight lol.

nope ...ok i haven't cleaned anything ,and there my brave icon in taskbar disappears again randomly.
like i said ,it's there and working if clicked on , but it's invisible .
weird ...it's only the brave icon .
