Recently migrated from Windows 10 to Zorin. Have a learning curve ahead of me but like the OS so far, despite issues with wifi card and sound. Working on those now. Once I get used to Zorin and have a good feel for it, I was wondering if it is worth upgrading to the Pro version. Does it offer much more than the Core version?
Welcome to Linux Land!
The main difference you're getting between Core and Pro are some more layouts are available in the Pro version. Outside of that, you're also supporting the developers and can choose at install time to have a lot of preinstalled apps (however you could also download and install these apps yourself on Core).
So if you're wanting to help fund Zorin (totally up to you, I have done so in the past), or you want some other layouts, then by all means pick up pro. Other than that, I would recommend you stay on Core.
Welcome! I made the jump from Windows 10 over two years ago. Zorin was a good place for me to (re)wet my feet in Linux (I first tried Mandrake over 20 years ago when I was quite young and knew almost nothing about computers).
A couple of suggestions that helped me:
- As prairienewf said above, there's no difference in the OS itself between Core and Pro. I stuck with Core for a few months until I was sure that I wanted to use Zorin as my daily driver.
- When you get stuck, search online to see if others have already asked about it. Since Zorin is based on Ubuntu, you can often take a solution for Ubuntu and apply it to Zorin. If you're still having trouble, come back to this forum. It's my favorite of all the Linux forums (even though Mint is now my daily driver).
