Hello there, like some General said, i'm just a few month in with Zorin 18 after leveaing Win 10. overall, quite happy, still I have a few questions about some stuff, so I'll list them and if any of them are better suited for a specific sub forum let me know.
my rig is a i5 13th gen micro, prime z690 Mobo, 32 ram, 3060 ti gpu, ssd for OS ( only zorin on xorg)and a couple of hdd .
In system tools there is an icon name "install release", it said to click it to permantly install Zorin on hard disk, is a ghost from when I installed or it means the os is not reaally fully on my ssd?
I'm on kernel 6.14, latest kernels, 6.17 kernels just go rigth to kernel panic, I updated to the new Zorin18.1 version, but still, How can I check what is causing the panic to fix it? or is other way to manually update it?
I use Expresss vpn, brave have no issues, been a long firefox user but brave is nice ! . nontheless any firefox browser seems unable to connect with the vpn on
I use it for digital art, design, ( krita, inskape and the like, and of course browse, music, videos and gaming, gen x here so, all single player and most of them rpg or crpg, but... and maybe is the vpn messing, but heroic strugle to conect with epic, while via browser no issues loading the epic webpage, is there a specific config to do to make it work ? haven tried playing yet, kinda scared to get the game crashing cause an unstable conection,
backups, if I do it manually, no issues, the automatic one fails every time, is this an issue cause by maybe the same things not properly installed that cause the kernel panic I mentioned before?
Is there a spreadsheet or list of terminal comands and how to use them etc, as you can tell, absolute noob regarding using terminal and comands, I dont wanna screw something up
I will like to run an AI locally to generate images, to play with Ideas regarding my art, feed them sketches and toy or create reference images , i do some digital art, but mostly traditional, realism is my jam, so people , landscapes, animals, for what I know, my gpu and system is a good starting point for what my intended use is, and linux is the best option, but I have no clue what where and how to do it, any sugestions or creator to pint me or guide me on this issue?
Thats all I can think of right now, and sorry for any mispelling , not my native language,
Overall, I was aprehensive jumping to the penguin side , but this has been a really nice and fun experience so far.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the wall of text and the ignorance,
On a diferent topic, Zorin OS in spanish u can read it as Zorinos, wich sounds like zorrino, ( the Skunk, the animal) just an idea if the Irish gang wants a mascot for this OS, lol, cheers!
Your follow up questions would necessitate rebooting with changes.
So this question by itself is very odd.
Are you booting with the LiveUSB plugged in still?
Are you booting a LiveUSB that is set up with Persistence?
I have never heard of nor seen Ubiquity or Subiquity leave behind a ghost, as it is Casper on SquashFS...
Kernel Panic happening with the latest kernels will be up to the kernel team to correct; the end user would be mired in a nightmare trying to troubleshoot it.
What you can do is check your BIOS (EFI) Firmware for updates and apply any if available.
If none available: Stick with the kernel that works. You can lock that kernel in as default boot in order to prevent system upgrades from upgrading the kernel and causing you to be unable to boot and log in.
I think this needs its own dedicated thread.
I think addressing the First Question takes priority - since you have a "Try or Install Zorin OS" option, we really need to verify your installation.
This two should have its own thread. But remember First Question.

There most likely are, as well as typing
man
for manual into the terminal. Also, check out here (This is a clickable link):
You can try Jan or Ente's Ensu.
When you run A.I. locally, it will be weaker and less capable. So while these are good starting points - start also with low expecatations at the start.
I highly recommend avoiding unfiltered or untrained models. They may sound fun... But are actually...
Well... annoyingly insane. And utterly unhelpful.
I recommend Ensu over Jan for ease of staring up - but you must use the appimage as the .deb installer is outdated in a way that makes installing on Zorin OS 18 nearly impossible.
I love skunks. They are very cool little badgers.
But... I think a skunk as a mascot might not work out as well.
