That does not sound very promising 
My suggestion is to return that RAM for refund and keep this laptop as is and use it as your sub-machine. I now have several sub-machines. They come handy for a testing purpose or as a spare machine when your main machine is in trouble.
Now you know what to ask for a Christmas 
If you are looking for some economical options, I highly recommend former cooperate owned laptops. They usually come to the market when 4 years lease cycle is up. The trick it to buy it from a professional seller who gives you at least 90 days money back guarantees.

Yeah. I really wish that we can buy new machine or even got a new assembled desktop for this christmas. For now, this laptop is my main cause the desktop my father made others assemble before self destruct before I even got to use it. Like its fan fall to the mother board? hahahahhahahah. It was 8 gb ram amd etc but the ram destroy the other ram slot so it turns to 4gb ram now. hahahahahha. Remembering what happened to that desktop makes me doubt assembled desktop, unless by someone I really know.
Corporate machines? Well, our printer is from where my mother teach but computers or desktop itself? Naaaah. Those where we work, I even donated flash drive to them.

Yes, we got that one member recently who was trying to get everybodies email info to exploit all of us. Well, I didn't fall off the truck yesterday, so that members BS didn't fool me one bit lol.
And that is also why I had to tell Frog to please remove the wireless network SSID information from his screenshot, to protect his network info, as well as other's. We don't want that being seen on the net, for bad people to exploit.

But joke aside, my recent "experience" on this forum taught me that there are some people who hate us just because of our gender. I am sure there is other way around, but in the files of computer and technology, we are the minority.
I had no hesitation to make it clear from the begging. Every time someone got my gender wrong, I pointed it out. I think I want to break this stereo typing that women cannot do science.

I am not talking about decommissioned machines.
But refurbished machines after they served 4 years lease cycle.
I do not know how it is in the country you live, but here in France, when the lease is over those machines are sold for shops specialised for reconditioning used machines.
I bought HP Probook and HP Elitebook less than 40% of their initial market price.
I chose those 2 particular models to install macOS on them. Funny thing is that macOS compatible laptops are also Linux compatible. Interesting discovery.

I personally appreciate it when ladies get interested in tech. We should teach that it's ok for ladies to be interested in tech. It should not be a male dominate industry. Everybody should be allowed to enjoy.

When the RAM don't wanna flash, cause the bits are in a mish mash, your chips overheat leaving a burning rash, you need new RAM, but your all out of cash.

I tried to look for DIMM that matches pre-existing one.
It seems quite difficult to find.
And even finding the matching DIMM it must have a fake band width declared like the pre-existing one.... I'd say chances are slim.

I have experienced much of it. As a single father, I constantly had to resist stereotypes that I could not possibly raise a child, for example.

You are also correct that women in computing and the sciences are the minority and are treated as such.
Women in the sciences had propelled us forward by leaps and bounds, including Marie Curie, Katherine Johnson, Ada Lovelace, Marie Tharp, Vera Rubin and a great many others who contributed so greatly, yet were never recognized simply because it was bad for mens ego to admit Women Were Capable and Smart.
It is important to remember that when the womens suffrage movement rolled across the United States, when women lacked the essential right to vote, it was the Majority Of Men who agreed and voted in favor of the womens right to vote. While the obnoxious and Loud among us often lead lasting impressions, the quieter portion of a populace often sides in favor of equality, equal rights and recognizing accomplishments. This means that it is within our power as Human Beings to affect change on the more true Minority of Leaders In Power.

Try check All the slots are working add the first one to the second slot and see it works. Also check the freq of the ram, they must match ....

The first RAM is soldered.

Band width of the pre-existing RAM is declaring false value which prevents the installation of another RAM in the second slot.
Conclusion:
There is no way to add another DIMM to this laptop.

Computers here in Philippines are known to worked till they die. Even they are at the poor state condition, owners especially companies, will make IT department worked to make those PC worked.
In many fields I encounter, minority is women so men usually shocked when they learn their is a woman there (especially in games).
Yeah that's why I gave up in upgrading the laptop after finding that one.

In France as well as Japan, it is cheaper to replace corporate machines every 4 years or so rather than paying for the maintenance.
At the University of Toronto where I took some molecular biology courses, some old buildings have no women's rest room and I had to go to another building.

Here, it will be cheaper also to buy than to maintain if you compute the overall cost but most people tend to say "we can still use it, just fix this." From simple things to gadget like cellphone and computers, to cars and house. As long as it isn't totally broken, the answer will be just fix it. This is like a cultural habit plus the word kuripot (or tight wad).
