No sound on Zorin

Hello Zorin Community I am hopeful that I might get some accurate assistance. I have Installed Zorin on to a Macbook pro (2017) after reading all the reviews etc and have tried several "fixes" found on the net and none have worked. Is there anyone in the forum that can direct me to an actual work around to enable sound in Zorin? Many thanks in advance. Regards to all, Geoff

Can you please give detailed information about your hardware (computer model, soundcard etc..)?

Hi there, The computer is a 2017 macbook pro running Ventura OS with 250gb storage. I can only tell you it had onboard sound but no name. The Other thing I can not come to grips with is the "Dummy sound" in Zorin.

Try the second link. That could work (Try to fix dummy output on Macbookpro)

Welcome to the Forum!

Does the Sound not work at all or only in some specific Cases?
Did you tried Pulse Audio Volume Control? It isa tool to set up Audio Output and Input. You can install it with sudo apt install pavucontrol

Could You post the Output of the Terminal Command sudo lshw -c Multimedia please?

Thank you for your response I will give that a try

Thanks again for your effort but again nothing works. I did have high hopes for this Linux stuff but this nonsense about no built in sound for (it seems) all Distos is just not worth the trouble. I am just amazed at how complicated this subject is. It appears that the OS, the Apps, the Utilities etc are all so good. but if you can't get sound working it's not worth the trouble. Thanks once again for your time. Regards........Geoff

Hello @Geoff1,
I have the same mac as you, Macbook pro 13 inch 2017 (MacBookPro14,1) and I got the sound working on Zorin 17.3
I followed these instructions to install drivers that someone reversed engineered : GitHub - davidjo/snd_hda_macbookpro: Kernel audio driver for Macs with 8409 HDA chip + MAX98706/SSM3515 amps

I also recommend to then install pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control) Install Volume Control on Linux | Flathub and keep it open all the time.
From the output sound list select the following and the sound should work fine: 'Analog Stereo Duplex' in pavucontrol

You can also find on this page how to fix many of the Mac issues on linux: GitHub - Dunedan/mbp-2016-linux: State of Linux on the MacBook Pro 2016 & 2017

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any issues
