No video for install

Hi all,
I am new to Linux and did a bunch of research and decided on Zorin OS Pro
Paid for it, Downloaded then flashed a USB drive. I can get to the install screen and pick install Zorin or safe graphics mode. no matter what I pick it doesn't work.
If I click install my monitor will shut off. If I pick safe graphics mode I will get a 2 inch strip of colors at the top of my screen but cant make anything out.
I seen some things online to turn off UEFI so I did but no luck, I tried creating new install media with different programs in case there was an error making the USB drive but no luck,

This is what I have for hardware
CyberPowerPC Gamer Master Gaming Desktop, AMD Ryzen 5 5500, 16GB, AMD Radeon RX 6700 10GB, 1TB SSD, Black, GMA6800WST

I am totally new to Linux and am slowly figuring stuff out but it's defiantly a whole new world.

Since Zorin wouldn't install I got the latest version of Mint up and running so i can still use my PC

That is worrying ,that you can install mint but not zorin.
Where did you download the zorin iso from ? I guess the official zorin site ...
Also I'm not sure what screen you getting , it's usually try zorin or install zorin. Not safe graphics. (that screen sounds like you booting into safe mode somehow )
Maybe now that you on mint ,maybe try burning another iso of zorin and see it works ?
Also you must turn of fast boot and secure boot in bios , can't turn off uefi

A few questions,

  1. Did you verify the hashes from the iso file ?
  2. Is secureboot disabled in the bios ?

Basic pre-installation advice can be found here: Before you install

Welcome to the Forum!

Let me ask some Questions to get more Info's:

  • Do you want to create a Dual-Boot System or Zorin only?
  • What USB Stick do You have? I mean Storage Size and Format.
  • What Tool did You use to create the bootable USB Stick?
  • Did You checked the Checksum of the ISO?
  • Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in the BIOS turned off?
  • Zorin only

  • tried both PNY 16GB and a Netac 16GB format was whatever the programs

  • default was set to. I let Etcher and Popsicle format and install the ISO image.

  • I tried Etcher (on a mac book)and Popsicle from a Pop OS that I installed after

  • Zorin wouldn't work) I have since installed and using Mint

  • Checksum was checked

  • Secure boot and fast boot are both off

I have successfully installed Pop OS and Mint but any version of Zorin I try all have the same results. I am thinking its a driver issue with Radeon RX 6700 nut not sure.

Yes to both questions

Its the boot screen options, no matter what option I try I get the same results.

That's a good idea, I downloaded Zorin again and and using mint to create another USB. I am downloading from the official Zorin site.

about to reboot now and will double check I have secure boot set to off. I thought I did but...

Also have a look here

"The newest kernels have moved the video mode setting into the kernel. So all the programming of the hardware specific clock rates and registers on the video card happen in the kernel rather than in the X driver when the X server starts.. This makes it possible to have high resolution nice looking splash (boot) screens and flicker free transitions from boot splash to login screen. Unfortunately, on some cards this doesn't work properly and you end up with a black screen. Adding the nomodeset parameter instructs the kernel to not load video drivers and use BIOS modes instead until X is loaded."

Zorin is still on an older kernel than mint ,maybe that's why.

Hmm ... Okay, I would suggest the following: Set Your BIOS to UEFI, turn off Your Internet and then start the Stick with Zorin on it. Don't choose the ''safe Graphics'' Mode; this is more for Nvidia Graphics. Take the normal Mode.

Ok so I made a new USB install in Mint then rebooted and started over, Still same issue but this time if I chose safe graphics mode it worked. Now I could install just fine but when it rebooted and I removed the install USB I had the same problem, Zorin would boot but my monitors would not work. Did some googling and pressed shift while booting, from here I was able to get into a command prompt and set Nomodeset save, update and reboot.

IT WORKS!!!!

Thank You so MUCH!
