NVIDIA RTX 5070Ti & Zorin

Greetings Everyone !
have new system build with gtx 5070ti

  • install zorin with nvidia drivers and 1 monitor was working then second connection ( 4k Tv was not )

  • then tried to install via safe graphics eventually after messing around with it i got the 4k tv working but now the monitor is not.
also noticed its using the 570 driver and now im sitting at 1080p and cannot change to any other resolution.

  • I guess my question is, has anyone got a 50xx series to work properly with Zorin ?

Thank you all in advance ! :clinking_beer_mugs:

UPDATE -
changed the driver from 570 proprietary tested to 570 OPEN proprietary and that seemed to get both displays working with the correct resolution,
BUT
now i see that my main display is only running at 29 Hz refresh ?
wonder if it has to do with the crapo hdmi cable im using with DP port adapter
(new cable is on its way )
any ideas as to why it would be at only 29 Hz refresh ?

I am no expert, but suspect because of potential cable issue it is dropping to a 'failsafe' resolution. (The same resolution you get on an Amiga 1500 as standard!)

thanks for the reply, yes i suspect the cable as well. Hopefully the new cable will correct this. ( ahh the good 'ol Amiga days ) :clinking_beer_mugs: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Could be a Combination of both. I mean using a bad Cable and an Adapter.

In this case, the 570 driver doesn't work properly on 50 series cards. Rather than a failsafe, it's a case of needing to use the open driver, as the user eventually discovered. I had the same problem with my 5090, even using Nvidia's own installer and compiling kernel modules.

As a general rule right now, I strongly recommend anyone using a 50 series use the open driver. On Zorin, I experienced the same problems as the OP, and on Nobara it just jacked things up completely and I had to reinstall. The 570 driver is considered bad even in Windows (people without 50 series were reverting to 565, people with 50 series were stuck). I'm currently running the 575 beta to get away from 570, which I would recommend to anyone comfortable with following Michael's instructions.

Those instructions are relatively complicated though, and it is a beta driver, so for anyone not comfortable, continuing to use the 570 is probably the best choice unless it's causing them specific problems.
