In this case, the 570 driver doesn't work properly on 50 series cards. Rather than a failsafe, it's a case of needing to use the open driver, as the user eventually discovered. I had the same problem with my 5090, even using Nvidia's own installer and compiling kernel modules.
As a general rule right now, I strongly recommend anyone using a 50 series use the open driver. On Zorin, I experienced the same problems as the OP, and on Nobara it just jacked things up completely and I had to reinstall. The 570 driver is considered bad even in Windows (people without 50 series were reverting to 565, people with 50 series were stuck). I'm currently running the 575 beta to get away from 570, which I would recommend to anyone comfortable with following Michael's instructions.
Those instructions are relatively complicated though, and it is a beta driver, so for anyone not comfortable, continuing to use the 570 is probably the best choice unless it's causing them specific problems.
