What's more obnoxious than Arch Linux fanboyism? Mint users fanboyism. If they can get away with it, they always says; "Have you tried Mint?". Totally randomer in one of my post on Zorin OS Facebook site said; "I prefer Mint yada yada yada...".
Then I had to say something along the line that he could go post that on the Mint site not here.
I'm glad that people like the system, but fanatic fanboyism is just plain obnoxious and stupid. Relax and enjoy I say and don't pestering your surroundings
I recently run into a very surprising issue with Mint, considering Mint it's supposed to be beginner friendly: after a routine update, a GRUB screen appeared asking me where my boot partition was... The wrong answer caused my laptop to brick.
I did ask on their forums about this and people were kind and quick to comment and answer any follow up questions I had, but the solution was that I should've known better (I'm paraphrasing a bit).
Funny enough, I'm using that excuse to install Arch in that laptop instead Still a long way from it, it's all just a learning exercise. But I'm supposed to know better, well then might as well dive head first into it.
I like MInt ok. I support a lot of the principles, though I do have strong concerns about the current direction Mint is starting to take.
I like MXLInux, too - if not Zorin OS, I would be on MX Linux, hands down.
I often recommend other distros like these. And many of us on these forums share our experiences with Fedora or Mint or Antix or KDE variants...
Would we be called Zorin OS Fanboys?
We already have. Here on this forum, even.
It asks the question: Where is the line drawn where it is obnoxious or not?
Nothing wrong with being a xOS fanboy in the xOS forums. But even so, the fanboy attitude quickly gets tiresome when there's no discussion or context around it, like Storm said.
It's kinda like DE's ..... I love and use Cinnamon DE and don't see the need to change for any reason ...... I also know there are other people that love their DE's so I try not to push my opinion off on them ..... if they feel that KDE ..... Gnome or Xfce works for them then by all means go for it .....
If there is something about a DE you don't like or it doesn't do what you want it to someone else may not have that same problem you are having or care about that feature .....
There is one certain DE that I could never get to work right or play nice with the other 3 DE's installed but I don't harp on it or even mention it when someone says how good Xxyy is .... if it works for them so be it ..... it didn't for me .....
But then this could pertain to any comparison in life ..... kinda like the old debate of Ford vs Chevy .....
Ain't it great that we can all make choices in life ?????? .....
True, but there's a fine line in supporting your favorite OS and driving your surroundings mad. I guess people get blinded when they think they found the holy grail.
That's is very true. I tested many distributions. I gived them chance to show me holy grail. I can liked many distributions but some are on first place. I could be wrong but also people don't have the same a colour eyes or religion, culture and language. Be respectfull and smile from fanatics. You cannot break a wall with head. Gived them chance to speak and taken a lesson.
@Bourne I have distro jumped like a maniac and still do from time to time. There's no holy grail. Only blinded faith...
When you distro jump a lot you'll see there's no right answer to which is best, only personal preferences.
And my personal distro jump is also my weakness for searching the holy grail
Yes! Doesn't exist anywhere perfect operating system. I sometimes distrohopping because all Linux are like a neigbour, where his house inside is diffrent.
I reading sometimes news about fanboys gnome and kde. Soon will be fans rust and wayland. Technology is changed and people using diffrents codes. Some distributions have primary DE example Fedora but spins Fedora also exist but they are not good because, Red hat - primary focus team on Fedora workstation.
I agree Bourne. I have 2 desktops & a laptop. Each with a different distro.
Zorin Pro (Daily Driver), Mint XFCE & Kubuntu. Pro & Mint are great. Steady, solid, no hiccups (knock on wood I didn't jinx anything). That's what I want out of a PC, something you start up and do what you want to do with no hassles. And after figuring out Kubuntu more, that pretty much now is the same.
All have similarities and differences. I like, enjoy them all. But of course I have a favorite...lol Now I understand why Swarfendor uses different distro's. I think it's not necessarily finding what's best, but more looking for what else is out there. Like Capt. Kirk. Sure, he loves his Devuan. But he's always looking at others as well.
I totally agree with Storm. Support your favorites, no need to push it on nor talk trash about others.
