Can only connect to the internet when ProtonVPN is running. If it's not running both browsers won't work. Anyone know what the cure is. Browser should work with or without proton VPN. Default browser is FireFox.
OS version ?
System Information ?
I suspect that you have enabled the kill switch, which prevents internet access even when (by design) the VPN isn't connected. I don't have it installed at the moment, but you'll find it in Settings.
18.1 core
did you try what @DavidA said ?
No still looking for the kill switch. Where in settings? Proton settings or Zorin settings? excuse my ignorance.
Proton settings
It's greyed out when the VPN is connected, but nevermind your problem is not there.
could you try to connect your Wifi to an access point, a smartphone for exemple, without VPN?
I don't know how to do that!
OK, go in terminal and give me the output of
sudo lshw -C network
As Nourpon says, the kill switch is greyed out while the VPN is connected. Disconnect the VPN and the kill switch will no longer be grey and you can uncheck it. Just be aware that by doing this your online session will become visible if the VPN disconnects - that's the reason the kill switch exists.

Do that
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
dai@dai-Aspire-A515-44:~$ protonvpn config set kill-switch off
protonvpn: command not found
dai@dai-Aspire-A515-44:~$
you can't do this command because you don't have CLI installed, but do what I asked before
I'm rather feeling as if I'm talking to myself here. From the initial description of the "problem" it appears that the VPN is behaving exactly as designed, but despite my advice and Forpli's provision of the Proton document on how the VPN works Dai is ignoring what seems to me to be the obvious fix. Frustrating. If it doesn't work, fine, but at least try and feed back.
It looks to me like the kill switch is turned off. So I think the problem lies elsewhere.
