i don't suppose you guys know why my connectivity goes limited and the red is just where I've turned wifi off and on again
Click Zorin 
logo bottom of screen, click on settings. Go to network tab, click the config icon.
Make sure you don't have this option checked.
If this is checked, it will treat the connection as a metered connection, and could be what is doing the limiting. This is the only thing that I know of, that could be causing this.
Also, another thing...
Have you disabled power management yet?
CTRL ALT T to enter terminal.
xset -dpms
Disabling that, will allow your WIFI adapter to push to full performance.
Hardware failure is a possibility...
Not saying it is likely, but possible.
Some other possible fixes:
- WICD - Community Help Wiki
- Turn off ipv6
- Install different drivers: GitHub - lwfinger/rtl8812au

could these have something to do with my current problem if so how do i install them

Not sure what I'd done wrong before but I decided to do a fresh install of zorin and my network is all fine and not going limited so happy days

@CJ1994 Awesome! Hey sometimes that's the only way..trust me I'm new to Linux and had to do it in the beginning. Now you have it running and enjoy Zorin 16 Core. You know drive it around the block, kick the tires, and roll the windows down cause the ride is faster and better than anything M$ could provide! Plus you have the added feature to make it YOUR Distro just the way you want it.
Look forward to more input from you as Zorin and the creations you share.
