Snap viability tangent

In all seriousness I would avoid snap like the plague. I have already posted elsewhere that our local Linux User Group co-ordinator advised that snap is as big a security risk as telnet or finger.

Since Zorin OS comes with Snap support, it doesn't make sense for it not to have a Snap version of its themes, especially since it comes with Flatpak versions of its themes, so I put them in my Snap, so that I can use them without any difficulty.

And for the average user, Snap gave me a more pleasant experience than Flatpak.

I've removed all flatpaks in my VM of Zorin 17 and it shows no sign of deterioration. Based on what was relayed to me I still would not trust Snap over a working system.

I would never use flatpak or snap. Last time i saw on my wifes notebook over 22 gb installed flatpaks. Removed them and not a single issue after.

Even though they are large, the practicality can make up for it.

Recently I've been using the Flatpak export and .snap download functions a lot.

In addition, certain programs work better in Flatpak or are more up-to-date, such as Lutris.

As this is a Tutorial for adding Snap support for Zorin Themes, I do not think that the O.P. needs to repeatedly defend the usage of Snap as a whole.
The topic is not seeking to request that Snap replace APT or Flatpak, nor suggesting that only Snap be used by the members as a whole.

Many of us shun Snap or Flatpak or debate their efficiency, efficacy or applicability where the topic requests information about those package formats.
But this topic has not.

Lutris can be downloaded from their site in .deb. Latest version :joy:

I've tried using the .deb version from the website, but for some reason it never worked here. Whenever I tried to install something, Lutris would load forever.

When I went to help a friend install a game, this also happened to him, with the native version loading forever.

He was only able to install the game using the Flatpak version.

Never had that issue. I am running Pop! OS and Endeavour OS

I commend the O.P.s ability to do this. My question is should we be giving encouragement to use something I have been told has security issues?

Due to this discussion, I just visited the Lutris Downloads github and grabbed the latest .deb and installed it. It installed in about three seconds.
This was using Zorin OS Lite 17.

Well, Zorin OS users are using SystemD, Wayland, Flatpak and Pulseaudio already.

I mean... Freedom of choice.

If Snaps are a real problem, the most logical thing to do would be to not ship Zorin OS with support for them, and try to prevent installation like Linux Mint does.

If Zorin OS comes with Snap support, it means that it trusts Snaps, just as users end up trusting Snaps because they trust Zorin OS.

I splintered these posts into a new thread in order to allow the tutorial to remain functionally relevant.

This gets its own topic, in case the members wish to logically debate the applicability of Snap vs Flatpak or other package means.

At least users have options with other distro's. Ever heard of dracut ?

Speed booter.
I can think of a couple threads that might want it. But I do not want to get caught in that spiders web of trying to guide someone through that configuration...

You can always send them over to endeavour

I leave that to you.
