Some zorin application eg zorin appearance, terminal and others, not working what could be the issue?
Welcome to the forum!
- Is this a new install that was just completed?
- What was done prior to this issue occurring, if it's not a fresh install?
- If it's a fresh install, it's possible the ISO was corrupted and could be causing an issue similar to the one you're describing. If this is the case, it may be worth re-downloading a new iso, verifying it, then installing again with a fresh, verified bootable USB
- Are there any errors coming up when you try to open applications, or nothing at all is happening?
Sorry for all the questions, just wanting to get some information.
Some basic pre-installation advice here: Before you install
Pay particular attention to checking the SHA256 checksum of the downloaded .iso against Zorin website published value to confirm download file is correct and not corrupted.
Also after you have created a Live USB, use the "Try Zorin" mode to see if everything looks OK before doing an actual install.
Welcome to the Forum!
Could You specify that? I mean, do they not start? Are You getting Error? Do they start but not work? Do they freeze?
it's a fresh install nearly 2 weeks old, before it was opening all the applications via super key, but at the moment it's only opens few applications like browsers but unable to open terminal where in this case am forced top open it via files and also it cant open zorin appearance ,can't be able to do some major updates and the error i get is i should contact the software providers
Thanks.
Few applications open but others like terminal am forced to open it from files option . For zorin appearance it's not launching and when i try to see details about the application ,there isn't any details and i don't get errors. and to add on that when i try to update the system ,the error displayed on the screen says that some important updates are unable to be installed and that i should wait for the next updates or i should contact the software providers..am using Thinkpad T 470 s
Okay, You should take a Look at the checksum like @zabadabadoo already wrote. What Tool did You used to create the bootable USB Stick? And when You start it, there should come a Screen where Zorin makes a Self-Check (black Screen with Zorin Icon and under it runs the Test). Was that Test okay?
Because Zorin 17.2 runs by default with Wayland, maybe changing to Xorg could help. To change go to the Login Screen and click on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. It have to be appeared! When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in and test if it works.
i used rufus to create a bootable USB.. the test was okay and i even changed to zorin Desktop on Xorg but still not working..
Can you open a terminal with CTrl+ Alt+ T? It sounds like an update may have got stuck. Once in a terminal window enter:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
This will check for any inconsistencies and pull in anything missing. After the terminal has finished, Ctrl+ X, then reboot. Once rebooted, please make sure that you get your software updates from Main Server and not your country server.
If @swarfendor437's Suggestion shouldn't work, You could try it with a Reinstallation of the Zorin Desktop. to do that, type in the Terminal:
sudo apt reinstall zorin-os-desktop
Some other Things:
Are Secure Boot, TPM and Fast Boot is BIOS turned off?
Did You checked the Checksum of the downloaded ISO like already suggested?
Are You using a Dual-Boot System?
Is Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
Do You use a Nvidia Card? If yes: Did You install zorin with Graphics Drivers or without?
it hasn't worked out, even after trying all the stated procedures
Okay, let's try something. Try to open Zorin appearance over the Terminal. If it don't open, You should get there an Error Message. this Message please post here. Maybe this can help.
To open zorin appearance over the Terminal open it and type simply zorin-appearance

this for zorin-connect
Hmm ... maybe there are some Files broken. Did You tried the Command that @swarfendor437 wrote above:
If not, try that. If yes, let's try a Reinstallation of the Programs. To do that, type the Following:
sudo apt reinstall gnome-terminal zorin-connect gnome-shell-extension-zorin-connect gnome-shell-extension-zorin-connect-browsers zorin-appearance zorin-appearance-layouts-support zorin-appearance-layouts-shell-core
After that make a Reboot and check if it works.
