Strange BT mouse slowdown when under load

If I start doing a few things at the same time (ex. downloading a Steam game + running the Software Updater) there are these strange BT mouse issues I'm sometimes experiencing. It's a bit worrisome because, ultimately, running two download operations doesn't really "feel" like a lot.

Generally the BT mouse is working great, but during these semi-rare moments the movement is "delayed" - like it's cached in the background, the OS needs to "think" about what it needs to do then performs the movement in acceleration to catch up.

The same does not happen with the laptops default touch-pad.

Any idea what could be the problem?

Is the Mouse connected directly to the Laptop or with a Dongle?

The BT module is internal in the laptop, and works reliably on Windows.

Do you know which version of Bluetooth is in use? If 6 you might need to install the BT6 packages via Synaptic Package Manager.

It's an older laptop, pre 2024, so it's unlikely to be a BT6 issue.

Note that the BT mouse does work. It's only a problem when the system is under load.

Did You checked the System Monitor if there might be some Activity under Load?

OK so having searched what was available pre-2024 was BT 5.4. Do you have all the BT 5.0 packages installed?

I'm sure there was some activity - I mean, I was downloading a Steam game and downloading update packages at the same time... but otherwise I'm not sure what I should be looking for when this happens in the future as It's not easy to reproduce on demand.

No clue TBH. What kind of packages would those be? My experience with most stuff like this is that if you're missing packages, then something's far more likely to not work at all, rather than work... weirdly under load?

The mouse in question is a fairly old and basic product.

Admittedly I know more about various WiFi version than I do about BT versions (i.e. my comparisons might be completely wrong), but whatever that mouse supports is likely going to be of the older variety.

Having gone on that link it states it is Bluetooth 3.0. The other interesting bit is in respect of Windows it stipulates that it "Requires Mouse and Keyboard Center Software installed" which might indicate why you are having issues.

IIR that piece of software was never really required, even under Windows. It offered a fancy-pants way of setting up some of the basic mouse parameters (speed and acceleration, double click speed detection, what the blue side-button does), but the mouse would function normally without it.

In fact the software used to get downloaded automatically on Windows (W10 would start downloading it from the MS store after registering the mouse, but the mouse would already work by that point)... and it doesn't get downloaded any more.
