Surfshark has taken over my system

HI all,

I have Zorin 17 pro installed , lately I cannot install updates via terminal or system updates, I see in terminal I'm being blocked by Surfshark in terminal and software updater. I have never installed Surfshark so I cannot understand why it has crept into my system, need help to overcome this.

Surfshark is a VPN that can only be installed locally. Are you the only user?

Welcome to the Forum!

Could You show us a Screenshot of that?

Looking at their site now, I see that it's possible to install this in different ways. Please run these commands in the terminal (one at the time) and let us know which one produces some output:

apt list -i surfshark-vpn
snap list | grep -i surfshark
flatpak list | grep -i surfshark

This will tell us the package format that was used to install this. We'd need to see the original error messages as well.

Hi Baba, welcome to the forum!

I use Surfshark, and it is a paid for app, so someone must have installed it!

I've had some issues but I've not had this problem at all. I would check your personalised settings, if that's possible as someone who hasn't paid for it!

Turn off Clean Web, Anti Virus, Kill Switch and No Borders. Go through a process of elimination to see if any of them are in conflict with your updates.

If you don't want it, purge it from your OS! Seems weird though! Screenshots, please.
