I've reinstalled the OS. I don't know if it has made a difference yet. It was very sluggish at first but it seems to have settled down now.
I haven't tried to change the Zorin Appearance yet, which was what I was doing when I had my original problem.
In Zorin Lite, there are Default Layouts in the layout tab... My own thing is- it is preferable to not touch that once you have chosen a layout. Because if you do -all panel settings you had customized will be lost.
