The Buzz around Mozilla's New Terms of Use

" Will Zen Browser come to Android?

Will there be mobile version for Zen Browser? At the moment, our team does not have the time or resources to develop Android or iOS versions of Zen Browser. Additionally, we believe that Zen's unique features, particularly its design around vertical tabs, do not translate well to the mobile form factor.10 Jan 2025"

I'm not fussed by these changes since I haven't used Firefox in years. I do get why there's a stink over the ToS update though but the Mozilla team need to do what is necessary to keep the project afloat and maintained to a secure enough level to stay relevant.

I get switching to Brave as default for the project was not an easy decision to make. I too would like to see a default browser selection choice either during the install routine or the 'Welcome to Zorin' tour so at least users can make an informed choice of their own.

I personally use Chrome, which may seem crazy to some people given the whole reason behind this thread but when you have a Pixel phone running a stock image, plus use GMail, YouTube as well as other Google services on PC too it doesn't really make sense to me to then be picky about the browser too.

I totaly understand your point of view, I'm using a Pixel too, but either with Brave and Zorin connect I found the way to not use Chrome, and in my opinion it's safer (for my brain and my data) .It remind me when people say :"I can't bypass Windows because Linux it's gor geek and too complicated, I will never being abble to do what I want..."

Indeed, my TV and car also have Android so I sold my soul a long time ago

In the past I used to go down the rabbit's warren of trying to avoid Google, Microsoft etc. but I came to the conclusion that whoever we choose to rely on these days there is tracking involved at some level whether we like it or not now.

I've been using computers since the early 80s and linux since the mid-90s so it's not the first time I have pondered this entire subject

I found Firefox unusable on Android, so made the best of things by using DuckDuckGo with Chrome. I never do searches, use social media platforms, the only apps I use are WhatsApp, Gmail and Google Maps, and because of my habits, Google always freaks out, sending multiple warnings of "unknown users" and "unknown devices" to various Gmail accounts I have, so they basically know what I WANT them to know (and it's all scattered), and I still never see any adverts, or keep any cookies on my devices.

DuckDuckGo blocks trackers and email cookies... (and more) on Android. I even had a security issue with my bank because they thought I wasn't receiving their emails, as I have a "paperless account" they were worried I wasn't paying attention to, or even getting their messages. I was, I was just being as invisible as I could. I now make sure they know I read my emails and check my account regularly, as they almost locked my account!

I took what I think was ZenZen's advice, and became boring... also using different devices for different things, changing browsers and addons, like Privacy Badger, various Adblockers and Bleachbit to clean everything up nicely. I'm happy because there's no true finger print or profile out there about me. I even do Google Play updates at work which is registered on Google maps as both a library and academy.

I think it's also a very good idea to use a different browser and search engine on your phone to those on your personal computers, tablets etc.. As for Chrome, in particular, I have it disabled on my Android. I just rarely use my phone to search anything, and if I do, it's Google with DDG. When I get a new phone, I plug it in to a computer, like any USB device, and delete the root folders of anything I don't like, or won't use. ...works for me!

It's a very promising read.

One of the reasons I purchased a Fairphone 3+ from /e/ foundation. It come with Bromite modified browser and uses micro-G. I use Magic Earth which is the defacto Maps app with /e/OS. If you have a suitable carmount it can act as a dashcam. It does have the occasional glitches. You have these settings as well, but if you want to visit a store with fake IP or geolocation you will get nowhere.

email is a fork of K-9 mail, the latter I use for my website separate from my personal email.

I find it funny that the section about app leaks in that screenshot is called "wall of shame"
