The screen is messed up after few days of using ZORIN 18

I installed fresh Zorin 18 Installation and it went great, no screen messed up, it matched the resolution and HZ. But after a while... I booted up Zorin 18 and the screen is messed up and no WIFI so I can't even use WIFI or ethernet but in about me it say I'm still using NVIDIA RTX 4090 though? I tried switching to X11 but I suppose nothing worked, I think it has to do something with restart to update.

I posted this in another thread too:

When your computer boots you normally select the first line that says something like "Boot Zorin OS".

But the second line says something like "Advanced options". Pick that one.

Now you can chose from different kernal versions. Don't pick the latest version but the one before that.

I have just faced problems too. My HP Zbook G4 15 suddenly had a basic screen resolution of just 1024x768 and no wifi.

But chosing the second newest kernal version fixed the problem for me.

I am not sure if there has just been released a new kernal version?

There came a Kernel Update. Maybe that could be the Reason. Try it with switching back to the older Kernel.

Thanks it worked, I went with the 6.1.7.0.14 like as you said to choose the second kernal. But the problem and question is, is that how do I make it permanently? So I don't have to go to the advanced options, so like I just boot up zorin OS straight away without latest kernel problem thingy. Also there's a updates in Zorin including kernel updates, do I update it or update without kernel?

Yeah, Zorin need to fix it. Or they did it on purposes.

Zorin does not influence the kernel. It is a fork of Ubuntu. The Linux kernel is maintained by Linux kernel maintainers. I too had an issue with 6.17 on a different distribution, but somehow it got rectified and now on 6.18.

The Kernel comes from Ubuntu. So, it would be up to them. Alternatively, You could use a different Kernel like the Liquorix Kernel for Example.

The 'fix' Zorin OS side could be to block that kernel upgrade or immediately revert after the numerous breakage reports.

But is this so simple to do and wouldn't this affect Updates that come after this?

Yes, it is easy, that is a simple repository override.

No, it would not affect following updates, only that package.

There was an update to Zorin today. I installed it and my installation works now without having to chose a different kernal.
