Translations missing in the system

I just installed Zorin OS 18. During the configuration I noticed that there are several words that are not translated into Spanish. I'm attaching images of some examples

I hope this can be fixed soon because it would be sad that people don't use the distro because of that. It is very nice in general.

Hola, bienvenido.

Sadly this is not limited to Zorin OS, it goes wider/deeper than that. In my search engine I asked:

"are all system interfaces fully translated into spanish on ubuntu 24.04?" [Zorin 18 is a fork of Ubuntu 24.04].

The A.I. answer gives:

" No , not all system interfaces are fully translated into Spanish on Ubuntu 24.04 .

While the operating system supports Spanish through language packs, translation coverage is not 100% . Community translators contribute to various components, but many strings remain untranslated or appear in English, particularly in command-line tools, backend software, and applications not managed by the core GNOME desktop team.

  • Partial Coverage : A translation coverage of around 40% is often sufficient for graphical applications to appear "decently" translated, but significant portions of the UI may still default to English.

  • Untranslated Components : Specific tools like nano and other CLI programs may retain English text even when the system language is set to Spanish.

  • Variable Teams : Translations are handled by disparate teams (Ubuntu, Debian, GNOME), leading to inconsistent completion rates across different parts of the system.

AI-generated answer. Please verify critical facts."

There used to be a volunteer group online who asked for volunteers to help with translating GNU/Linux into different languages but sadly it has folded.

You could take a Look at athe Links in the following Comment and see if You can provide Translations:

I was curious to know if Trisquel, a Spanish GNU/Linux distribution has all things fully translated, but appears not as system software is written in English.

" Trisquel GNU/Linux : A Spanish distribution (from Galicia) that is 100% free software and includes translations for Galician, English, Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Chinese, French, Indian, and Portuguese , but the context does not claim it translates all elements of Linux."

¡Hola y bienvenido al foro de Zorin! @rafaz

Very often, this is because the things themselves were created by English speakers who invented the names. In English, we have SOOOoooo many borrowed and adopted words from French, Hindi, Japanese, Italian, just to name a few! We adopt them, we don't change them.

Another problem is that there are many "Spanishes", as a resident of Spain this has caused me a few headaches in the past! Completely different words exist for computer: computadora is one but no one says that in Spain, we use ordenador instead. The most popular verb here is an expletive in Argentina... language is a funny thing.

As a teacher AND student, I've had to accept a lot of strange things in both English and Spanish, and mostly I've enjoyed learning those things. So, just as we'll never call paella, chicken and mixed vegetables with rice, or sushi, raw fish, rice and seaweed, Google will always be Google, WhatsApp won't change either, it's just better to accept that some words don't need to be translated and just stand as they were invented.
