Hi, figure 1 is what I see when I switch on the PC. If I click on Windows Boot Manager, it runs to fig. 2 (Preparing for automatic recovery), then it runs to fig. 3 Automatic Recovery: Unable to restore your PC (where I can choose between "Shut Down" or "Advanced Options") and fog. 4 "Choose an option", but in practice I can only turn it off because all the others lead to nothing (even if I wanted to restore the Win OS, it gives me an error and I can't continue something different than turn off)
Yes, that is the GRUB Screen. I mean, when You go in the BIOS. There You should find a Boot Menu or Boot Order. When You there choose Windows to start, do You get the same like shown here on the Pictures?
Yes, no chace to start Windows. By the way I totally deleted Windows, so now I have just Zorin and when I switch on the PC, I see this. By the way, still no sound at all. I suppose the problem is in Zorin, as I have no Windows anymore.
Yes, the GRUB Screen is still active. You can disable it. In Zorin open the Terminal and type sudo nano /etc/default/grub
and there look for the Line GRUB_TIMEOUT
and change it to GRUB_TIMEOUT=0
and then press ctrl+o to save the Change, Enter to confirm and ctrl+x to exit. Back in the normal Terminal Overview type sudo update-grub to make affect the Change.
Because of Your Audio ... Please type in the Terminal sudo lshw -C multimedia
and post the Output here.
This is going to sound absolutely berserk ...
If you have a Windows startup disc - pop that in and load into the installer but do not install anything at all... Once you're greeted by the M$ hello we're about to install junk that costs money bla bla bla - ignore all options and just 'shut down'...
You can definitely remove the Win installer from grub though - run:
sudo os-prober
then:
sudo update-grub
Then ....... reboot and see if that goes away lol if not you can just delete the entry out of grub manually but, that should see there's no more Win install and take it out of grub!
Thanks, I've done and now GRUB_TIMEOUT is saved in 0 (zero) and not anymore in 10 as before. Here is what appears with udo lshw -C multimedia
.
You could try this:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1225463/18-04-no-sound-intel-sound-card-snd-hda-intel-not-working
Thanks...followed that link, but still no audio at all.
I have deleted Win from the grub and from everywhere...but still no audio.
Do you have a pair of headphones you can use to test if there's audio out from the 3.5mm port - if available?
Also.. take a look in 'alsamixer':
That's from my iMac late 2015 - no audio unless I switch to the PCH card with F6:
Then, I get all kinds of fun:
But, the only way to change volume is to use my arrow keys and raise / lower PCM level.. Apparently this sound card didn't get any attention lol.. But, works perfectly with a set of cheap desktop speakers plugged into the headphone port! So, I just use that and forgot about fiddling with the internal speakers..
Also... ouch:
According to that, and some other searches - you may or may not get it working with some drivers.. and this was the linked driver that worked for Debian 12:
This is my AlsaMixer.
I really don't know how to solve this audio issue. I wish to keep Zorin, but the sound must work, of course. I just tried Linux Cinnamon (try version via USB), and it has no sound as well.
I guess You mean Linux Mint? What is with Fedora? Did You tried that?
Yes, Linux Mint. Going to try Fedora. Feedback will follow.
You may take a look at the help site from Zorin under the chapter:
PCI/internal sound card not detected (dummy output)
Even with Fedora, nothing is completely (only Dummy Output present)
Hmm ... even on Fedora it doesn't work ... there would be the Option to try it with something like EndeavourOS ... but I don't know. To be honest: I'm out of Idea's at the Moment.
It's a pity but I'm forced to reinstall Windows 10 (the sound was perfect). The only thing I can image is that disinstalling Win, some audio equipment was deleted/off.
Normally this does not happen. Windows and Linux are separate from each other and each use their own drivers.
It is important that Windows is shut down completely and the quick start function is switched off, otherwise problems may occur.
Win is not anymore present (totally deleted). Quick start is off. I will try to reinstall Win and see if audio still works as before, and then I'll install Zorin again.
Then I would suggest to install it as Dual-Boot to check if the Sound works in this Setup.
