@StarFighter I had a newer Gateway laptop (:laughing: I know, I know.. it was cheap, and a good candidate for a Linux "netbook".. sorta..more on that later) that was pretty weird.. it used eMMC storage and didn't have really all that much to begin with but, when I wiped it the first time to install Linux I got a dead laptop in the end result....... it was very strange - but, I had to end up wiping all over again, re-installing Windows, and then carefully remembering to shutdown to 'disconnect' all the devices from the BIOS and underlying Windows subsystem junk... That was one of the very firsts for me, I've not really experienced anything like that before -- but for some reason the Sys devices were locked into Windows.. I had to end up sending the first laptop off to Gateway because the sound card seemingly just, died after trying to get Linux working lol.. it actually didn't die in the end, I found out what was going on after the fact when I got the replacement in the mail... wiped it without even turning it on to finish installing Windows, and began the same fight LOL but, that time I won :grin: Turns out I just needed the right driver (in Windows, found the right one for Linux too) that's not specified anywhere - even from Gateway's website driver download page. That laptop isn't even listed in their support lol.. I had to use some driver download utility but it was free, no spyware or junk...

Anyway - in alsamixer, what's displayed when you press F6? Like my iMac, the HDMI / Lightning bolt port is set to defaults but the internal speakers still have issues and can't control the sound as normal; all through alsamixer.. Just curious - wondering if you're experiencing what I am with my iMac sound card. .

This is with F6. I've changed to HDA Intel, but still silence.

I just looked at your alsamixer screenshot. See you have Intel Skylake HDMI sound. I have seen numerous itemes recently reporting sound issues with Intel hardware. Some say sound failed only after updating to Ubuntu 22.04 (base of Z17).
I have done some websearches using searchterm: "Intel Skylake HDMI no sound Ubuntu"
but no definite fix was identified. Here is best hit I have found so far.

How about headphones - do you get audio through the headphone port? May have to use some external speakers like I have to.. and yeah was reading up on that sound chip; not exactly.. ideal, in terms of those who tried to fix. I see one disabled the graphics accelerator .. to get sound - and one commented, "that's like closing your eyes to hear.." lol... definitely not what we want to go down..

Try some headphones, see if sound comes through the aux / line-out / 3.5mm..

@StarFighter
Another websearch, this time using searchterm: "100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family HD Audio Controller Ubuntu 22.04 no sound"
Found this: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=351807

The thread is somewhat convoluted, but the user seems to get sound working in the end. It may be a help, or give a steer.

From experience sound issues diagnosis can sometimes be illogical and results hit-and-miss.

EDIT: Another hit, implying conflict between sound servers (see post #10).
This is on Arch, not Ubuntu based distro, but again may be a steer. [SOLVED] No sound devices found / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums

EDIT2: Also found this here on the forum. Whilst the issue was solved, from my reading it is not really clear what solved it. No sound output neither from speaker nor headphone
Maybe @Peterling can clarify, if he is still active here on the forum.
