No sound output neither from speaker nor headphone

Hello,

I freshly installed ZorinOS 16.2 with kernel Linux 5.15.0-67-generic on a:
Exone D3400-B1 (Fujitsu Motherboard) with an Intel H110 chipset and a LGA 1151 socket.

The sound chip is an

according to lspci. Additionally there is a NVIDIA GTX 950 installed.

If I play music and video in youtube or as single file the sound level / meter will move in pavucontrol. So there is sound. But I cannot here it. I tried different speakers too. Front and backports from the pc too.

In alsamixer the speakers seem to be muted every time I reboot. As soon as I unmute it it still plays no sound.After reboot "speakers" are muted again.
I pavucontrol it says: "Headphones plugged in" and the meters are moving while playing music.

I even tried another distro (mint) with no luck. Sound worked in windoze.

Websearch was not very fruitful, but maybe something worth looking at here: drivers - Ubuntu 20.04 - No sound - Ask Ubuntu

Separately:
In alsamixer if you hit [F6] what sound cards are shown?

What other sound output options do you see in PulseAudio volume control?
Is it possible to change profile on the Configuration tab to "Analog Stereo Duplex" and see if any benefit.

In PulseAudio There is only
"headphones"
mentioned as plugged in. But I have speakers.

In pavucontrol:
"Line out" (unplugged)
"speakers" (unplugged)

I can change to whatever I want ... no change.

I even tried to compile the driver from realtek website - but this driver did not compile correctly. (Too old propably)

And I tried to change all changeable settings. The funny thing: I can see the volume metres jumping so there must be sound there. It is just not coming out where it should be coming out.

Nope, did not work out. I even tried the other parameters mentioned ... but they gave me errors during boot:

So I removed them again. This is driving me crazy. It must be one of these funny parameteres ...

Can I ask, if you fire up your ZorinOS Live USB in "Try Zorin" mode, do you get any sound?

(I personally find sound issues with Linux often neither easy or logical to fix. Sometimes luck plays a part and you get an unexplained surprise.)

I would be checking the outgoing port for your speakers / headphones at that point.

I took the speakers and plugged them in in another PC. There they worked. I even tried headphones. I will change this pc with another one tomorrow. I have many of them Maybe the 3.5 mm port is broken? Although I tried the back one too. Thanks for your time and help. Very appreciated.

Ok, the problem seems to be solved now. I took another pc, same model, and there the sound worked directly. But I am still not sure if it is because of the new pc or because I forgot to plug in my mini pc usb wifi adapter during boot.

This time I booted the new pc and plugged in the wifi adapter after the pc had booted up. The wifi adapter worked after pluggin it in at the back usb port. In the front usb it did not want to work at all. But now I notice a question mark in its wifi symbol down in the taskbar. But the wifi adapter still works.

I will do some more tests now to find out if now everything works as expected. I will do some 3D tests to check if my NVIDIA card still works. I am downloading now blender to do some rendering. I will report back how this worked out.

But sound is working.

The wifi adapter will not be needed later. Just for installation and configuration of the pc. So fingers crossed that now the troubleshooting is over.

I notice a question mark in its wifi symbol down in the taskbar. But the wifi adapter still works.

Best to start a new thread for your wifi icon question mark issue. It has come up before, so see if this helps:

I get the same thing using Z15.3 Core. As wifi still works, I just ignore it. The "?" dissappears and comes back on occasions best known to itself. Maybe see this: 18.04 - Question mark icon instead of wifi icon - Ask Ubuntu I assume same for ubuntu 20.04. I may investigate "Connectivity Checking" setting mentioned in that link.
