Hello forum, first post. Using Zorin for about 4-5 months now.
Within the last week or so, my daily updates are failing. I have some experience with Linux so I dropped down to the terminal and it's still failing when I do 'sudo apt upgrade'. At first I thought it was failing on the IPv6 address that it was trying to reach ppa.launchpadconent.net on, and I don't run IPv6 on my internal network (have it disabled on my Ubiquiti router), so I opened the connection properties for the SSID I normally use at home and changed the IPv6 properties from Automatic to disabled.
It's still not working after that, it does seem to try to connect to an IPv4 address now for ppa.launchpadconent.net, but it still won't do the updates. It seems to fail at "waiting for headers" when I watch it in the terminal.
I tried to telnet to ppa.launchpadcontent.net on 443 and it does connect, so I don't think my firewall rules on my Ubiquiti router are blocking the connection, I do have some geoblocking and so forth set up on Ubiquiti.
I also tried some different update hosts in the update sources configuration, I let the OS pick it's own, but that didn't seem to help either.
Any ideas? Is there a --verbose setting for Apt? I guess I could read the Man page for Apt? Not sure where to go from here and I don't really want to reinstall as I've set up some VMs and so forth.
Well I ran updates from the GUI menu again and now all seems to be well. I don't get it. Wasn't working last night, wasn't working today, now all a sudden it works. sudo apt update and sudo apt autoremove are also both working now.
Maybe the problem was on the other end? Who knows.
Ubuntu's servers were down, which you might see mentioned in other threads. ppa.launchpadcontent.net is Ubuntu's. As a derivative of Ubuntu, for updates the Zorin brothers don't personally manage and configure come straight from Canonical's servers. It sounds to me like you ran into that, and then your GUI attempt just happened to be on the good side of Canonical getting them back up.
is this fixed? terrible timing to try to force update to firefox due to some sites saying my browser was out of date (with no way to update through the browser or software updater).
somehow after upgrading firefox, it switched me from x11 to wayland, and now i can't select any driver other than the default, without getting a pk-client-error-quark issue for the launchpadcontent site.
You could try it with updating via Terminal with sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
It will take a bit longer to refresh the Sources because of that Issue but the not working will be go aside and the working Sources should offer Updates. At least it is worth a Try.
Yeeeeah...i try update but connecting with ppa.launchpadcontent.net and still not working(34 packsges i have to updahe like ssh-client or header fo kernel modules but nothing from ppa.launchpadcontent.net because time to connet was too long)
unfortunately, my issue is in graphics drivers. im defaulting to xorg drivers, which are not ideal for the games im trying to play (causing immense lag). none of the options i'm selecting seem to work either. its so odd that these drivers arent stored locally after downloading and seemingly require a connection to change them.
Only to be clear here: The Drivers that You see in the List of the ''Additional Drivers'' Tab are only the Options that You have. That they are not all downloaded and saved is Intention. You choose one Driver and that will be installed. The others not.
Because of Your current Situation: From the Picture, it looks like the there will be downloaded some Files from PPA's that are located on Launchpad. and because of that, this Process doesn't work unfortunately.
I would be careful with this. You don't know how intense the Attack was and how much they had to check and control to be sure that there are no Intrusions and Manipulations. When You update Your System, I guess, You want be sure that You don't get manipulated Packages.
+1-Cannonical-is not perfect-but Thet can give out-users - can distributions which have lates(or simmilar/near) of course don't adding arch x)-for no advanced linux users
