I'm new to using this OS, so it may be something that I did or haven't done properly.
Noticing that since installing the OS, my desktop keeps locking and signing me out. Now this would be just a mild inconvenience, however, I'm barely getting time to even finish signing in with my password before redirected to the login screen asking me to re-enter my password... I'm serious, like only seeing my desktop and icons for 5 to 10 seconds, just long enough to see that I've been signed in, before being required to sign in, yet again...
Again, it very well could be something with user error, I may have not checked a box somewhere, or just not holding my tongue right. But any help at all will be greatly appreciated!
You could try to switch to Xorg. At loginscreen click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select Zorin Desktop on Xorg. I'm not sure how the problem can be solved in Wayland.
Probably not the solution but did you check under settings/power to make sure you don't have very short delays set for turning screen off or going into suspend mode. Seems unlikely this would happen by mistake though.
I've tried the steps to switch to Xorg. Clicking my username doesn't bring up a cog wheel. In fact nothing happens.
With the command prompt screen, I'm able to enter my username to login, but when I attempt to enter my password it's as if there's no input. No keys on the keyboard register an input in the password field, with the exception of the Enter key.
Reading the other comments, I also don't see how I would have accidentally set a screen timeout to such a short period of time, but I feel like that may be what is happening, as my screen does in fact turn off relatively quickly, before refreshing with any input and returning me to the login screen.
I have not been able to successfully attempt reinstalling the Desktop and Login Manager at this time.
I'm feeling curious to find out if going through the process of reinstalling the OS from the ground up, so to speak, and double checking for any odd power settings that may have somehow been set without my realization, would solve the issue.
I thankfully don't have to concern myself with potentially lost files, as this was a brand new install on a computer that is simply no longer supported by Windows.
I will say though, that immediately after the install and initial set-up of Zorin, the performance was excellent. The issues only arose after the computer was left dormant for a night, allowed to enter sleep or hibernate mode.
This is a good reason to reinstall. For future reference, however, you do not need to reach the desktop to enter in terminal commands. Using tty with ctl+alt+F5 and exiting tty with ctl+alt+F7 would provide a termina or using the Advanced option at boot and selected "Drop to prompt".
Honestly, I would go ahead and do a full reinstall if I were you. This time, though, double-check your steps and choices. And if anything seems "off" to you, make a note of it and finish installing Zorin. Come back here and ask about it if necessary. Good luck.
Final update! Whatever gremlins were at work must have gotten tired of me trying to mess around and get all the settings and various commands worked out. Work and other responsibilities kept me away for several better part of a day, returned and the issues seem to have almost resolved themselves.
