What can I do to improve performance?

Zorin is running slower than Windows 10 sometimes, and some programs have really poor performance when compared to windows. I installed Resources but the gpu utilization is always at 0, while the cpu is always above 70%, Mission Center doesn't even show the gpu tab. Is it possible that my gpu isn't being used? What can I do to make it as smooth as possible? Also, why does the software store take ages to load?

Purchase some more RAM. Software can do many things but not magic  4 GB is not much when a browsing easily eats 1 GB.

I actually am using an SSD but I'll definitely buy more ram. Do you think 16GB is too much for this pc? What about this?

That GPU, is it a dedicated video? Not familiar with APUs but my hunch is your CPU is handling all the load and slowing it down. If there is a way for you to set it up for the dedicated GPU to handle all graphics, I'd recommend it.

Single and multi thread rating of the E1 1200 APU is on the low end
AMD E1-1200 APU Benchmark.

My desktop also has 4gb ram and runs decent. BUT it has a dedicated graphics and the rating of the cpu is 2193/7274 (single thread/multi thread) compared to your APU's 431/382. I'm also using an old hard disk drive (old style with spinning discs. Not SSD)

Nope, integrated GPU

If you have an integrated GPU, your only hope is more RAM. If more RAM doesn't speed up the computer, you'll need a new mid-range computer.

If you deal a good price it's not so much, but only with 8GB it's a good start.
