Well, there would be the basic Things:

  • Themes
  • Icons
  • Cursors

Then You have the Option for Gnome Extensions to add functional Stuff. You could use Customization for Bash - I use Starship for this. Of Course, you have to read in in this. Or You change Bash to zsh or Fish Shell and customize that.

When You learn to create a .css File, You can made some of Your own System Customisations for the Look.

I'd suggest going through this thread to browser for some ideas. It's a long one, but has some really cool customizations!

Given that you mention using Zorin on the "hardware and programming side," you might also be interested in customizing your kernel or desktop environment. For some newer CPUs, there are gains to be made in kernels 6.11.x and 6.14.x, though whether or not they apply to you and are worth tinkering with your kernel is a question only you can answer. There are threads elsewhere regarding the use of Mainline to switch kernels, and one of our most experienced members, Aravisian, has recommended the TuxInvader kernel for people who want to change theirs. I personally use the Xanmod kernel.

Desktop environment might also be of interest to swap out if you don't like GNOME, but don't try to upgrade GNOME itself; it will break things badly on Zorin. Surprisingly, at least to me, switching DE on Zorin was more hassle for me than switching kernels, and I haven't given DE changes another try, since Zorin can't use the current version of the one I'd like to switch to.

Can yall pls tell me what this does :hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed::sob:

What does this do:sob::heart_hands:

Thanks SIR ZENZEN-CHAN

More intel on that pls like what about gnome can i change im kinda an intermidiate beginner

Gnome-tweaks
Gnome extension manager
You need them if you want to customize gmone, e.g. use your own themes, icons... and when you want to use extensions.

Arc menu: A more flexible and customizable start menu than Zorin start menu

Enable user themes: You need this to use other themes, icons that are not preinstalled, e.g. for download from gnome-look.org

Tiling Shell: An extension which allows easier managing and arranging opened windows on your desktop

Conky: a widget that can show date, clock, wheather, system informations, system monitor

Desktop Clock: gnome extension that shows date and/or clock on the desktop

Fastfetch/Neofetch: a system information/monitoring tool

For Themes, Icons and Cursors, You can take a Look at www.gnome-look.org and to add them, you can use Zorin Appearance or install gnome-tweaks with the Terminal Command sudo apt install gnome-tweaks

For Gnome Extensions, You can take a Look at extensions.gnome.org but to install them, I would recommend to use the Extension Manager. You can install it in the Gnome Software Center:

With that Tool, You can install and manage Gnome Extensions.

To start with this Stuff should be enough for the Beginning I guess. Looking for zsh or Fish Shell is something for later.

Extension Manager often doesn't have extensions. Better to go to:

That can be because - depending of the used Version - the Extension Manager only shows compatible Extensions for the System. On the Website, You see all Extensions.

No, the web site has extensions that work fine even tho they don't show up in Extension Manager. Happens all the time.

Hmm ... interesting. Do You have maybe an Example? I would like to check that. I personally didn't had any Problems with it. When it is compatible, I found every Extension. Do You use the official Flatpak Version or the one from the Repo?

I had in the Past a lot of Problems with the Website and was very happy as I found the extension Manager. They're runed and runs all without Problems for me.

Just checked and NONE of my extensions show up.

*Blur My Shell extension
*Panel Scroll extention
*Desktop Clock extention
*Weather O'Clock extension
*Gnome Clipboard extension
*Shutdown Timer extension

Tho there is one called Scroll Panel.

Edit: Installed the flatpak version and it works. So, do NOT install the Zorin version (first on the list).

Yes, the Flatpak Version is the official Package from the Developer.
