Windows app support help pls

how do i install zorin windows app support, i keep getting this message

(ps: i recently installed zorin os on my laptop, so idk if i did something wrong, also the message is on top)

Please open Software & Updates and ensure that "download from" is set to Main Server.
Update the cache.
Then open terminal and run

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Then try installing

sudo apt install zorin-windows-app-support

uhh

It looks like you will need to do that manually...
Open terminal and elevate to root:

sudo -i

Launch the file manager as root

nautilus

navigate to "other Locations" > "computer"
Then, /etc/apt/ and you should then see a file named sources.list
Right click that and choose open with > text editor.

Change kw.archive.ubuntu to archive.ubuntu by simply removing the kw...
There should be Two Lines for this. One is the main and one is security backports. Change them both.
Once done click the Save button and close it out.
In the Open Terminal, type

exit

The terminal will revert to your Home Directory. Now run

sudo apt update

That will refresh the cache and set to Main Server.

there seems to be multiple kw.archive.ubuntu in sources.list (11 to be exact), do i change them all to archive.ubuntu?

Yes. You may use the </> no-parse tags you see in the toolbar of the reply window to print a full display of your entire sources.list in order to be sure.

before removing kw from archive.ubuntu

Ok, it looks fine. Leave that open in case you need to Undo the changes (In gedit, this is easily done with ctrl+z keyboard shortcut. Tapping that shortcut undoes One Change with each tap. You can tap it like a maniac to completely revert all changes, as long as you have not saved and closed the file.
It only applies per session.

So leave it open, test if you can run

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

in terminal. Then try installing Zorin Windows App Support.

stuck on installing 0%

Did sudo apt update show any 404 errors?

nope but i do see a "dpkg: warning: unable to delete old directory /var/lib/fwupd: directory not empty from running sudo apt upgrade though

That's pretty normal. Sometimes, different applications store files in shared directories. For this reason, a removal of a specific package defaults to not removing a directory that may have shared files.

We could try just installing Wine 6 or 7 from the Wine Repository instead...:

nvm it took some time but it did install
