This year has been a roller-coaster, to say the least, and now I've found myself on LinkedIn searching for a new job! I'll go into more details below.
I enjoy writing, so a large part of my activity on LinkedIn has been writing about the EoL for WX and making the switch to Linus, especially Zorin_OS, which I consider to be a fantastic alternative to WX (way easier than Mint). So, my question is, can I use images from Zorin.com and the associated pages in these articles?
The last post I wrote about Zorin included links, so the images showed up as a part of those links. Now I'm thinking about writing an article, rather than just a post, and there's an option to add images. I don't want to infringe copyrights but I do want to encourage and educate people about the viable alternative that's available to those who, for whatever reason, can't or won't move up to Windows 11. Can I use images from here, or online, to promote Zorin_OS?
The background regarding why I'm in this position (don't read if you're not interested!!):
So, my estranged husband (together 26 years) passed away, at a young age, last year after losing the battle against his demons. Although we were estranged for a few years, I was devastated. I also lost one of two brother cats I'd rescued to an eagle owl, and had issues with my boss's husband, so my doctor registered me "off sick" for the last 3 weeks of the school year.
I had the summer to recover and I returned to work the following start of the new school year, 12 months ago. My boss did everything she could to make my life difficult, but the year was a complete success and my students performed really well: I was really happy. However, there were issues like not receiving my salary on time and my travel allowance was cut completely. There were a lot of other "forced problems" (e.g. my keys to the academy got "lost" for months... yada, yada.) but too much to go into.
There were also serious problems with the house I was renting, like being left without bathroom facilities for 3 weeks in June! My best friend came from England to stay for a few days on the very day my landlord sent workers to finally repair the damage. We stayed in a hotel by the beach, and while we were there I saw an advert for a country house close to where I’ve been living for the last few years. "Call them!", she said, so I did, and I ended up buying it, trapping the feral cats (mum and 4 kittens) and moving in by the end of July!
By the time I got to view the house the owners had dropped the price considerably. Not many people want a house that's over 100 years old, had no electricity or drinking water supply, but for me it was my dream house. I have solar panels, a water well and rights to so much water a year from a local reservoir, for the hamlet my house is a part of. There is no mobile / cell phone coverage inside the house but I have great Wi-Fi via satellite. ...and somehow, I've ended up with NINE cats!!! Picasso, the cat in my profile picture lost his fight with leukaemia about 3 weeks ago, then two tiny kittens turned up, screaming for food, at my door a few days later. There was a very bad smell coming from my wood store, and my neighbours and I think their mother died in there. I'm not going to look until winter. ![]()
I found out 6 days ago that my boss was not going to honour our contract (Fijo, discontinuo, indefinido) which means I work the school year, my contract pauses during the school summer holidays, then resumes in September. She's in breach of contract, so as of yesterday, I'm suing her.
I'm also searching for a new job! I'm not in a desperate situation but... ... .... LinkedIn could be a good place for me to find a new position BUT it's also a fantastic place to introduce people to Zorin_OS!!!
If you read this far, you truly deserve some kind of award, lol. Any and all advice will be gratefully received!
