We are on the same page. I have many machines available for experimines as we are going to propse your Distribution to very high rank decision magers. Trust me it is matter of time....
Well, the ZorinGroup would be pleased. I am not a Zorin OS Developer, just an instrument on the forum.
And if a reinstall and reattempt is not a problem - that is exactly the route I would take. The reason being is that the packages you showed above should not have this result. One change I would make is to install the Nvidia-550 driver instead of the 580, then test installing Davinci Resolve and related packages.
All I need as admin is Intune avaialble for Zorin, I know it is not up to yee but we are getting there... MS Office with SharePoint integration is another mile stone...
I will leave Davinci for some other time, now focusing on Microsoft 365 and Edge management, missing element is Intune for Zorin, that's it. Everything works very well.
Tomorrow is another day, thanks for your assitance and help.
In respect of Intune there are some open source alternatives mentioned in this spiceworks thread:
I would also take a look at Q4OS as an Enterprise Option:
" What specific industries have successfully customized Q4OS?
While specific named industries are not widely publicized, Q4OS has been successfully customized and deployed in concrete use cases, demonstrating its enterprise suitability:
- Education: A school district successfully re-provisioned approximately 1,000 decommissioned Chromebooks and deployed them across the institution, finding Q4OS outperformed other distributions for this task.
- General Business/IT: An organization created a custom Plasma desktop image with specific settings and software, then used Q4OS's S4 Snapshot tool to deploy this image across 300 PCs , replacing Windows 10 in a rapid and painless process."
Q4OS is my second use OS after my daily PCLOS Debian. It is a very stable rolling-release based on Debian.
In respect of DaVincibResolve I suspect Winboat might be the solution. What I did not realise until the other day having read a post elsewhere on here is that Winboat uses (K)VM, pulling in a stripped down version of Windows 11 for apps to run natively. I naively thought on first hearing about it that it was another WINE app.
Alternatives for MDM for M365 Admins are out of scope at the moment untill real alternative for Microsoft ecosystem will be created.
I tried Eset agent as a quasi MDM and it does quite a bit of management include remote shell commands which is great.
Installation is super easy and dashboard of Eset gives enough management. But it is not as good as Intune.
Due to current geopolitical situation now is the time to bring up all alternatives to bright ligh.
Someone wrote a Guide here on the Forum. Maybe that could help You:
It is with AMD GPU but You could take a Look at it.
Once I get newly installed Zorin 18.1 will follow your steps and come back to you with the outcome.
I have 2 laptops with AMD GPU but these are very basic and be too slow for DaVinci.
In PC I have 2080 Super Nvidia it is much better for this task.
Thanks.
I like community support on this forum, super professional, no chancers like Microsoft forums provide .
Hello, I followed your steps and application started, I have used DavinciReslove free ver 21 on Zorin18.1 with AMD processor and AMD GPU (not very powerfull) unforfunaley during app startup ysing your comand: distrobox enter davincibox -- /opt/resolve/bin/resolve app reports error.
do you want to have look via TeamViewer or any other remote software?
I didn't wrote the Guide. But You could post a Screenshot of the Error Message. that could help.
Good and band news:
- instalaltion works on my home PC, version of Davinci is 20.3 Resolve
- application does not recognise my GPU nVidia 2080 Super

I tried on two different nVidia GPU's everyting works except apllication does not see GPU. Therfore it can not run. Do we know who wrote this method as it is almost perfect?
That was the User @angriness
He/She is tagged now. Maybe the User can give some Advice for that.
What Nvidia Driver do You use?
Default installed during Zorin's install
Please excuse my ignorance but do not know how to check drivers' details neither on GUI or terminal.
This GPU is P2000 quadro
To me looks like the container can not create environment for DaVinci to discover GPU
Open Software & Updates and there go to the ''Additional Drivers'' Tab. There You can see the Drivers and what is installed.
580 Driver. That should be okay. Nvidia shows this Driver for this Card as recommended.
