Youtube wants force me to log in to show that I'm not a Bot, hahaha!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I was on Youtube to look some Videos but suddenly from one Video to another it didn't work anymore. I only get this Screen:

It says something like ''Log in, so we can see, that You are not a Bot'' and ''Through this our Community will be protected''.

Does anyone experience(d) that, too? I normally use Firefox and thought that it maybe suddenly don't like Firefox anymore so I tried it with Brave, too but with the same Result.

I must say that I use uBlock Origin. So, I thought that this icould be an Action from Youtube to block the Usage of the Videos because I use it. But even with disabled uBlock Origin it doesn't work.

Of Course maybe it could be some kind of technical Issue. I will see if it works tomorrow. But I was interested to know if anyone else have that. I had in Mind that there are third-party Tools like Freetube and Pipeline for playing Youtube Videos, but I thought the whole Time that these shouldn't be neccessary for me ...

I have not experienced it, but it is a step Google/YouTube is taking to prevent View Inflation of videos.
On the surface, this seems valid and understandable. Underneath that, however, is Googles nebulous and changing policies of how YouTubers get paid.

You see, one of Googles changes to YouTube after they bought it was that the YouTuber only gets paid for videos in which the viewer watches until the video fully closes. The vast majority of users Do Not watch until the video fully closes, skipping the end credits or closing themes or whatever.
This heavily and unfairly skews things into Google's favor, allowing them to weasel out of paying up.

To offset this, many YouTubers began using bots to simulate the gap in user behaviors, shoring up those missing views ; in addition to unscrupulous YouTubers using bots for Ad and View Inflation.
Google is responding be seeking means of mitigating view inflation.

The simpler solution would be for Google to be Fair in its payment policies... but they are not going to choose that.

I'd suggest creating a throwaway account anyway. Just the fact that it'll begin showing you videos that you're most likely interested in is worth it.

Is it though? I can't tell you how many times I've watched one video outside my usual preferences, only to spend the next three days telling YouTube, NO, I really don't want to see videos about X or Y. Not to mention the times they decide a parallel interest is something you would care about if you just tried it, so they try to stuff it down your throat. I'm a gamer. Pirate Software (the YouTube/Twitch guy) is involved in the gaming space and has recently been at the center of some scandals. I cannot express to you how much I do not care. I've been telling YouTube I'm not interested in "Pirate Software is ruined!" videos for at least a month now to no avail.

See also VTubers. I'm a gamer AND an anime fan. Surely I'd love VTubers, right? AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. If I could just block videos by expression it would be the biggest improvement the site has ever had.

Hmm interesting, I've only had the usual "age restricted" screen or similar telling me to login to watch this video. I use a Firefox fork with NO account and have YT in a container using Firefox Multi-Account Containers add-on and also Ublock Origin. I found there seems to be a benefit in ruthlessly using Ublock Origin to block every YT pop up (I understand the page you screenshot is NOT a pop up) I block every instance of YT pop up for "it seems you are using an Adblocker which is against YT T&C" and this seems to have stopped those pop up's for well over 6 months now without any issues. I also discovered Ublock can block those "Context" banners under the description with "contoversial" subjects, it takes 3 separate blockings to complete on each "Context" banner and you never see them again (I can think for myself thanks very much daddy you tube). In a word Ublock Origin is AMAZING.

Going back some years now I invested in a piece of firewall hardware, firewalla, which is powered by USB port on router and connects to ethernet port. It would not grant access to YouTube with Google message of "You need a business account to watch any video." I first started using YouTube when starting out with GNU/Linux. When they introduced their privacy policy I left for Veoh dot com, now defunct but replaced with a new provider which I know nothing about so have left free uploading behind. I have joined tilvids dot com but not uploaded anything there. I only use Vimeo.com these days for uploading to, for which I pay around £60 for the year.

Okay, new Day and ... it seems to work like before. I tested it, clicked on various Videos and they played without Issues.

I don't know what was happening but I will see if it will happen again. And I will take a Look at Freetube and Pipeline. These are Programs to look Youtube Videos without Youtube. Could be nice to have as BackUp if this should happen again and will come to stay.

I will let the thread open for the Case if someone should make this Experience, too or if it should happen again to me.

It never happened to me in librewolf with ublock origin. I also haven't gotten any error trying to play videos from the newpipe app (similar to freetube, but for android) since months ago

I've had similar behavior while using a VPN. If you were, you'd have said as much, I'm sure, but it's possible someone close to you (in terms of network geography) has been abusing YouTube with bots and triggered a similar, automatic reaction. In the absence of other circumstances, I think it's pretty likely this has nothing to do with you or your usage, and if it does repeat, it's going to be for causes beyond your control.

It could be simply that they had a surge of activity and decided to impose this to mitigate a potential flood from bots, or even prevent a more serious large scale DOS attack.

Yes, we encountered the same issue at (Mod note: Advertising Link Removed). It seems like YouTube is tightening bot verification, even on regular browsers like Firefox and Brave. Disabling uBlock didn't help on our end either. Would love to hear if anyone found a stable workaround maybe a change in user agent or using a third-party tool like FreeTube might be necessary now.

I have exactly the same with vpn. maybe this is a cause for you @Ponce-De-Leon

I don't use VPN.

I am having this issue for the first time today. NewPipe and Freetube don't work, and I have tried Brave, LibreWolf, and Mullvad. They all give some error (ironically not the same error). I do use a VPN but have tried a half dozen servers around the world with no change. Wonder if Google finally cracked down on this? Is there some workaround that I'm not aware of other than creating throwaway acct?

Maybe try it with disabled VPN. I tried Freetube and Pipeline and both worked for me.

Does that expose your IP to youtube? Or does proxy funtions of freetube change IP address?

Yes, Freetube is only a front-end for Youtube but it's still your computer connecting to Youtube's servers. The only difference is that you're not using the website or mobile app from YT, sparing you from all the telemetry and other annoyances.

However, it may be possible for you to setup a proxy server. I see that Freetube has that listed in their docs so there's probably an option for it, even on Pipeline.

I can only recommend using FreeTube. Also - if you use Firefox or some derivative like LibreWolf - use the Privacy Redirect add-in that can redirect youtube URLs directly to FreeTube, so when you click on a link, a FreeTube window appears. That is quite nice.

I changed to a new VPN provider today and set the server for the same country I was using with the previous VPN so as to not stuff up my no account YouTube experience with Firefox with Ublock Origin and FF Multi account containers and this happened several times, so far. This has never happened with the previous VPN ... :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

I'm going to test out whether Ublock Origin can block this invasive nonsense ...
I really loathe "captcha" :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

That I didn't had. Since that happened this one Day, it didn't happened again. I only have these little Loading Pauses between Videos where You have in the bottom left Corner a litte Info text where stands something like ''When You want to know why it takes longer to load click here''. But I already know why, so it isn't neccessarry for me, hahaha!
