Zorin 18 Beta feedback/discussion thread

Hi to everyone. I figured I'd open up a new thread in the "Feedback" subforum that focuses on feedback (and discussion) for the Zorin 18 beta. I've already submitted a specific piece of feedback via the feedback app on the Zorin 18 beta ISO about X11 and flickering windows, but yeah. (Unfortunately, that bug seems to have persisted into Zorin 18 for whatever reason there may be.) Does anyone know how to enable Wayland for the beta as a live user? I don't want to have to install this on my PC just to provide feedback. (Wayland works better with AMD.) Also, I don't see (at least not right now) an option to move the floating taskbar back to the edge of the monitor. Is there even an option for that? I think that's about it for now. I don't want to have to get a NVIDIA card just to use X11 properly. Thanks. (EDIT: Also tagging @AZorin and @zorink here so they can track this thread for additional feedback, etc.)

I will check if the live media is different but on my installed beta system the default seems to be wayland

You already have created this Thread. Good. I planed to do that, too to collect Impressions, Experiences and Issues centralized in one Thread to not have it splitted into several Threads. Thank You.

Because of the Taskbar Thing: You can do that. You have in the Taskbar Settings the Option for Setting the Border Radius and under that You have a Settings for the ''Margin''. When You set that to 0, You should see that the Taskbar goes to the Ground.

Update: Booted the live media confirmed it uses x11 for the live session.

Why doesn't AMD work well with X11? Am I the only one? Ha.

I was able to switch the live session into wayland by following this guide.
Note: This will not persist after closing the live session.

Open a terminal
Check your session type with echo "$XDG_SESSION_TYPE"
Leave the terminal open and enter:-
sudo nano /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
Find this line WaylandEnable=false
Change false to true
Save file and exit
sudo systemctl restart gdm3
Live session will restart in a wayland session

Thank you; I will try this when I get back home.

The first thing I notice:
The weather tool can no longer find my cities in Germany.
Everything works perfectly with version 17.
On my laptop, the light design appears bluish. :scream: :face_vomiting:
The blue tone was exaggerated. The light theme from 17 was perfect. The light theme from 18 is terrible.

Yeah; not exactly a fan of the overly bluish tone.

This worked - thank you. Wayland works perfectly on the Zorin 18 beta here.

Can't find APT files ... ? Only options are Snaps and Flatpaks? What the heck?

EDIT: @AZorin and @zorink - want to clarify this? Where are the APT packages?

Has anyone got connecting google account to work?

When i click sign in, it just says it will open my browser with the prompt to sign in, when clicking ok, nothing happens. Sorry if this has been asked before, i did see some old posts about this, but didn't really find a working response. Thanks!

I installed Zorin 18 Beta, opened Software and searched for GNOME Tweaks...then clicked on search result.

I see "Zorin OS - APT" listed under the Install button.

When you say that you 'Can't find APT files', what do you mean? Can you share the program you are trying to install from APT/repo?

I'll have to get back to you on this later. Not home right now. Thanks.

Hey has anyone tried to use the microsoft 365 in accounts to be able to sync one drive its asking for client ID and Tenant ID?

Wait. You installed the beta? That may be why. I just tried out the live beta. Did not install it. Interesting.

That's correct - I installed the beta into a VM, then restarted and logged back in.

I didn't try installing from APT in the live environment.

Yes, I went to Settings > Online Accounts and added my Google account.

This worked as expected (as it did in Zorin OS 17, and as it does in Fedora).

I see my Google Drive stuff in Files/Nautilus.

You can obtain your tenant ID if you have a Microsoft 365 account...not sure how to do this if you have a consumer account (for example: an account ending in outlook.com, live.com, hotmail.com, etc.)

Users with a paid 365 account can find steps here: Microsoft Entra admin center
