Zorin 18 Beta feedback/discussion thread

I have just started testing v18 beta. The interface is even more beautiful than before. Zorin v18 is a truly stunning environment. But why wasn't the recycle bin desktop icon updated? It's such a shame that such a beautiful system has to make do with this icon. Please take another look at the desktop icons ...

Had it working fine on 17, but when i click nothing happens.

For anyone else having issues signing into "connect accounts" with google, try to update and reinstall worked for me.

Themes are broken in ZorinOS 18 beta

You will see more of GTK4 in Zorin OS 18.

GTK4 and LibAdwaita both work to override user themes and inject default Adwaita styles over them.
The ZorinGroup positioned a counter to LibAdwaita in Zorin OS 17:

Try these steps for getting your theme to show up - but you will need to use a GTK4 theme...

Personally it feels like the towel has been thrown in the ring about getting away from Microsoft and Google. My heart sank with the announcement of brown and yellow theming which brought back the nightmare at work when the IT support was outsourced a second time with a brown desktop and orange panel. It's like seeing b o d i l y excretions you wouldn't want to handle. When you look at the Mint Menu this is basically a Cinnamon take on KDE's Launcher Menu but it is living in Gnome. The panels can be replicated in Plasma quite easily. I can imagine @Locklear93 not being happy with a curved floating panel. Whilst I admire the hardwork that has gone into this release, and I appreciate that people 'need' access to closed source apps, I for one cannot continue, and I certainly do not feel the urge to write an Unofficial Manual for 18. Anyone here is welcome to use the Zorin 17 Unofficial Manual as a baseline for a version for Zorin 18 but sadly it won't be me. Let's look at Antix, their repos offer SoftMaker Office free version, and even SoftMaker now allow you to download FreeOffice without requiring you to provide an email. Please note that while I am in the land of the living, the Murena storage will still hold the Unofficial Manuals, and after that they will still be available on Internet Archive. It's been a fun ride, but for me the fun starts with a system with no systemd, pipewire over Pulse Audio, and XLibre over Wayland; so it looks like I will be focusing on Plasma distributions henceforth, PCLOS Debian and Artix on a personal level, and Q4OS for migrators. Lastly a browser chooser should be included, even if Brave is the default and if Voyager can create an app to remove Gnome DE, how hard can it be to write an App to remove Snap and Flatpak? And how hard is it to include Synaptic Package Manager as an alternative to the badly designed and clunky gnome-software?

I wasn't going to make a specific post about just that, but I am considering taking a break from gaming this weekend to see whether Debian 13 works well for me or if I should expect its slow release cycle to make it a very brief adoption. I'll have to update the kernel and do manual Nvidia driver installation, but I do that here too. You're completely right though that the look of Zorin 18 by default isn't for me.

To be fair, Zorin 18 does switch to Pipewire.

Yes i know how to install themes of course but i don't know of any specific GTK 4 themes.

Yes... I know you know that...:stuck_out_tongue: But have you needed to add the .libadwaita before?

Ohhh no never sorry i missed that, i have no idea lol

Please test that, first - as that will effect all of the gtk3 apps and themes you have.

Yes i'll try. I should say incase it matters not even Files is being themed.

I believe that Files (Nautilus) is GTK4 in Zorin OS 18...

Sorry I'm not having any luck and my brain is tired from University today. I'll just wait for now.

When rested, we can walk through it step by step.

What do you mean?

I believe that @AhavaLeaf is referring to third party and custom themes, not the Zorin OS themes.

Try the Following:

Go in Your Theme Folder. Activate ''Show Hidden Files'':

Search for a Folder called ''gtk-4.0'' and go in this Folder. There You create an empty .txt File. When created rename it to .libadwaita (because of the Dot at the Beginning, you have to activate the ''Show Hidden Files'' Option). Important: Only rename the empty File and let the File empty! It should look like this:

If done, open gnome-tweaks or Zorin Appearance and choose Your Theme. Then it should work.
