Zorin 18 Lite - does anyone use it?

There are hardly any threads about Zorin 18 Lite on the forum, and Zorin Lite isn't promoted on the website anymore... Does anyone even use Zorin 18 Lite?

It seems to me like Zorin 18 Lite is being pretty much neglected. Some of us who used to enjoy the Lite version (Aravisian,
applecheeks37, littlekun, me) have already jumped ship. Are the developers still investing time and effort to fix the issues,, or are they just letting it run its course?

Since everyone has so far only hinted that some things aren't working quite right, but no bug reports have been submitted to the developers in the "Feedback" section, I'm not sure if they're even working on fixing the issues.

As I remember, there was an announcement that Lite will be discontinued.
Why bother with installing Lite, when it will be the last Lite version?

Zorin 18 Lite is supported until 2029, still three years, also why not? Three years are a long time.

As long as Zorin Lite is supported, it will get Updates.

The Lack of mentioning here ... Because it was announced that it will no longer published, People might orrientate differently or tried the Core Version I guess.

I still use it. Well, there is one issue, but I can just shut it down and boot it up again instead of using reboot, which avoids it getting stuck on the reboot screen.

Maybe my hardware just isn't compatible with newer kernels. Other than that, it's quite good.

Well it's still the best solution for certain hardware. I have an Acer aspire circa 2001 that I upgraded with an SSD and extra memory and it runs Zorn 18 lite rather well.

and even after it's no longer supported, it can still be useful. For instance I still use Zorin 16 for my daily driver. I've got it behind a hardware firewall, so not too worried about security updates. It's still the snappiest most stable version of Zorin core I've used.

Well there are plenty of other distributions that use xfce, Devuan, MX-Linux, Mint, Artix, PCLOS, PCLOS Debian and even GhostBSD. Other lightweight distributions not xfce include Trinity DE, Antix, and possibly the fastest installation as there are virtually no applications installed with it, WattOS R13, up and running with an install under 5 minutes!

When this is the Case, You still can install the xfce Desktop from the Repos. Yes, it is not Zorin-themed but it is available. And Theming can be done manually.

I use Zorin 18 Pro Lite on my desktop (upgraded from 16/17) and 13" notebook. On my older desktop I have Zorin 18 Core with XFCE plus Whiska menu installed as DE. When Zorin 19 arrives on the scene, I will probably install the Pro version, plus XFCE as DE. I have compared my present XFCE adaptation with 18Core, and consider it much better overall. Circumstances may always change in the future. Who knows? Perhaps there are fewer threads on the forum about Lite because users have fewer problems?

Hi, @Forpli it is a long established lightweight distro. It is light because of its lack of applications on the .iso.

Had to watch the video to remind me it uses LXDE.

WattOS is not in Distrosea...maybe because of this I didn't know it. I tested it now, but it is a bit difficult to use. It is very minimalistic. Not even a program installed to enable the touchpad tapping. I first had to install xinput to register clicks by tapping. And the forum is just in Discord. Without an account there, it is difficult to get help.

So there are still a few Zorin Lite 18 users out there! That's great. I keep an eye on developments, but stay with Z17 for as long as possible. I was just wondering why things had gotten so quiet around Zorin Lite - there have been hardly any reports, except for a few issues with the upgrade.

Zorin OS Lite has consistently had far fewer threads than Core, for many years.
Whether it is due to significantly less users... or less issues, is not really known.
But if we take a few metrics: If it is due only to Less Zorin OS Lite users, it would require there to be less than 7% Lite users and 93% Core users over the years. That is statistically very unlikely to be the case.

I would absolutely be using it if I didn't know I would have to be switching in the future to something else, and have been testing more and more distros (as my time permits). I have noticed recently (and recently as in like, maybe the last year or two) that a lot of distros have been letting their XFCE versions slip a bit, and simple things on the desktop that should be changed haven't been.

Mildly frustrating, but still. This is a DE that CAN look good, with not much effort put in at all, while still being fairly lightweight. I even recently looked at PCLinuxOS XFCE version, and prior versions had everything large font, large icons, basically made the whole desktop EASILY readable no matter what screen. Now, it's (more or less) a bog standard XFCE install with some very minor changes made. I was a little saddened to see that.

Or because one needs to scroll long time down the download page before there is a tiny note and a link to the Lite version ... :thinking:
lesser amount of users = lower probability of problems = less reports
