After that clean install of 17.3 before I started using it in earnest I attempted to one last time install 18 via the upgrade feature. I was reluctant to install via a new flash drive with 18 on as I was looking at the bigger picture. Moving forward if future updates mean I have to do a clean install and lose all my files and folders that would have been a deal breaker for me, although I back them up and can re add them it's still a time consuming faff.
I'm pleased and relieved to say this time it worked smoothy, it took about three hours, but it's up and running now
I just went back to look at the email sent to me. I think it would have been better if information about the upgrade tool version needed should have been included. I can imagine many eager beavers not wanting to follow the excellent tips provided in the link on how to progress which should also have detailed the version of the necessary Upgrader Tool and how to check installed version.
I upgraded to 18 without issue except other than for some reason it deleted my Brave icon. At first I thought it had removed Brave but after opening Software I found I could open it there. Instead of trying to fix a icon I just reinstalled Brave. Other than finding gedit replaced with something else (not for long) it went pretty smooth.
It did so with quite a few apps besides Brave and for some reason the ugprader always uninstalls OpenMorrowind, I have to reinstall it every time. But it's a minimal fuss, at least it works.
