Zorin 18 upgrade not detected by upgrader

I agree it does seem to be a long time to release the upgrader as a stable version. Is there still no indication of when it will become available?

Zorin have been promoting that it's now possible to update, I tried again, it failed again, corrupted everything again, had to do a fresh install from the USB again!

I'm loosing faith now :worried:

The update is fine, but you first need to remove the third-party repositories!

Can You explain in Detail what went wrong?

Not quite sure what that means, but I have only downloaded from the Zorin store; I don't think I have any third part anything installed.

From memory I got an error message referencing something had gone wrong, then on restart I got as far as signing in, instantly after which I got a screen similar to the windows 'blue screen' advising the failure.

I had fortunately kept my USB with Zorin 17.3 on to try, which I could use to restart in safe mode, then do a full reinstall from there. I have been really enjoying Zorin 17.3, I preferred it to Linux Mint Cinnamon and Unbuntu, the latter was a very close second to Zorin.

I had no issues updating to 17.3 from the previous versions, but twice now it's ended badly when trying to go to 18. I haven't put all my files and folders back on yet, before I do I was contemplating one more attempt to upgrade and if successful I would then do that, if not I may swap to Unbuntu

show us the result of this
sudo apt update

I assume now that I've done a fresh install that won't tell you what you need to know?

It would be good to know what Error eactly it was; You don't have a Picture of is, do You?

Had You added any Third-Party Repo's?

No to both.

I'm hoping that as it's just had a clean install it should update to 18 smoothly when I try later this evening..........

why you don't use zorin 18 iso directly ? this make no sense if you have installed 17.3 to update to 18, but it's my point of view

Because I was hoping both times to keep my folders and files. When it failed I still had the 17.3 on my usb stick, I hadn't added 18 to that USB stick as I assumed I didn't need to if the update had worked

OK but you said you did a fresh install of 17.3, so I don't understand

I assumed you were asking to see the results of the failed update, I don't have them and now that I have done a fresh install of 17.3 I won't have.

I understand, but why you didn't install a fressh install with 18 directly ?

I am confused, isn't that what I am doing by going via the update menu? If you mean why didn't I install 18 from the flash drive then it's what I have referenced earlier, I only had 17.3 with no way of making a new one until I had my laptop working. Chicken and Egg, I needed to have a working laptop to do it.

No it's an update, longer than a fresh install with Zorin 18 iso from here

OK I understand, but from live boot you could download it and flash it, but I really understand if you don't have another flash drive

Given the numerous failed Upgrader Tool reports, many users that did not add third party repo's still experienced a failure - I think it may be the Gnome Versions that are conflicting.
But I have not run enough trials to confirm this - and this is complicated by at least two of the Zorin Metapackages that seem to be available, then unavailable - within minutes...

Regarding missing metapackages and a few other errors encountered, based on our testing, it appears that they are caused by users attempting to upgrade using an older version of the Upgrade Zorin OS tool. The upgrader should be version 1.3.9 as older versions don't have all the latest bug fixes.

For those encountering issues: please make sure to install all of the latest updates from the Software Updater just before running the upgrader again. We would recommend you to make sure you're carefully following the instructions in our upgrade guide here:
