That's normal. Gsettings set commands for true/false are like a slider in the GUI you turn on or off. There is no terminal output then.
I only read about a user which upgraded from Zorin 17 pro to Zorin 18 pro and everything worked. I'm not sure if there are larger problems with the upgrader tool. You could send a report of the failed upgrade.
Well it went from bad to worse, I managed to corrupt 17.3 and now having to attempt a fresh reinstall from the USB drive that I used initially, which is taking far far longer than it did initially and appears to extremely sluggish on 'retrieving files' during the install; two hours and counting so far.
If all fails I have another USB with 'Unbuntu' on which came a close second when I was trying distros; looks like they may end up winning; I've spent all day achieving nothing
It looks like you can still download 17.3 Core but not Pro, from the archive section of the Zorin website if there is a chance your USB got corrupted too.
As an update it finally did a clean install of 17.3.
What I thought was going to be a relatively straightforward update that I started at 9am thinking I could then spend the rest of the morning enjoying what's new with version 18, actually ended up being 13 frustrating hours getting back to where I started!
I've not reloaded all the files from my 'back up' yet, after that challenging day I am trying to fall back in love with Zorin, especially as my Unbuntu USB is waving seductively at me, it was a very close call when deciding which of the two I preferred, I tried several and it came down to those two.
This is where you all need to say welcome to the fun of Linux and Zorin, Unbuntu will no doubt have their frustrating days of joy as well
We’re also excited to announce that we’re officially launching upgrades from Zorin OS 17 to 18 today.
This upgrade path is in early testing and is currently only available to users of the Zorin OS 17 Core, Education, and Pro editions. Upgrading now will allow us to collect feedback and fix bugs to improve the user experience before its full stable launch in the coming weeks.
Clearly says it isn't the stable launch.
Warning: This upgrade path is not recommended for production machines yet. Upgrading during the testing period may cause stability issues or breakages on your system.
I think the i million were almost entirely fresh installations not upgrades. I'm waiting a while to upgrade because 17.3 Pro works well for me (after some learning experiences during install!)
Worked for me, smooth as butter but seriously it took some clutching the pearls and answering yes a few times to get it sorted
That is not to say your mileage will be anything close to mine, at your own risk
While I have installed 18 on my desktop, I'm far more reluctant to do a clean install on my laptop, but I still haven't seen the upgrade become available, so I just might go ahead w/ a clean install on my laptop. On the other hand, I haven't noticed too many noticeable improvements, Nautilus keeps locking up on my 18 install, and the OneDrive integration is so minimal it's hardly useable. I often wondered what it would take to write a OneDrive application that integrates w/ Nautilus or Gnome, and it turns out that DropBox has a great one. Too bad I don't use DropBox too much.
It's been three (3) months since Zorin 18 released and I still don't see the option to upgrade. I'm not doing the test upgrade, will do the final one, was curious if anybody has any idea when it will be available.
What are the chances they forgot all about it? Kidding. As long as it's going to be stable as possible (meaning on their end, not gnome's), I can wait it out.
I also find it very disappointing that it takes such a long time for an in-place upgrade to become available.
In addition, it was stated that Pro users of version 17 would receive a discounted price for the in-place upgrade, compared to purchasing a new license. Unfortunately, I bought the Pro version of Zorin OS 17 only three months before the release of version 18. As a result, I now find myself having to pay the full price again, which feels quite unfair.
If the in-place upgrade only becomes available three months before the release of version 19, this strikes me as a very unusual and unfortunate upgrade policy. From a customer perspective, this discourages timely purchases rather than rewarding loyal users.
The obvious question a person may ask seeing this is, why not just use Core for 18, since you passed by some time limit on 17 Pro?
The answer is because the In Place Upgrader does not offer any ability for a Pro user to Upgrade to the next Core Release. As a Pro user, it only offers the Pro version of the next release.
Hmmm. Wonder if they ever thought of a sliding scale. I agree, Why purchase 17.2 or 17.3 for full price when you'll get 1/2 the value as opposed to getting 17 when it first comes out. ($47.99 for 2 years)
XX.0 - $47.99
XX.1 - $37.99
XX.2 - $27.99
XX.3 - $17.99
Not necessarily this cost structure, but you get the idea. Would be interesting to see how many more users would give it a try if it wasn't so cost prohibitive... Thoughts?
I find it insane how they don't have a way to give people who buy the Pro distro by the last year, to get the new distro with a discount with a percentage based on how much time before the new distro release. For example:If you buy Zorin 17 three months before 18, you should get 18 for like, 85% discount. Go from 10% up to 90% depending on how much time the new Distro is about to be released, or at least issue a warning in the website before you buy so they can WARN you to not pay for it unless you want to support them of course, because there will be a new version soon.
And I'm also a bit meh about how long it's taking to release the upgrader as a stable version for us, I'm considering fully formatting my system, and considering I upgraded from Windows to Zorion a WEEK before Zorin 18, I really don't want to go through the whole process of reinstalling the system, I wish I could just upgrade. But eh, it's either wait, enable the beta channels to try upgrading without knowing if it will work nicely or clean install. Since I use this for work, I really don't want to lose days fixing everything again.
