Zorin Community Editions?

I have some coding experience and want to contribute to an open source project. It would be cool if there was some community run version of Zorin that people with experience can contribute to and then the main Zorin OS could use that as an upstream for testing. Similar to the relationship between RHEL and Fedora.

There was a discussion here about a KDE community edition.

I assume as a community we can install KDE, make changes and package it up and see what happens.
