Zorin Locks up after loading brave browser- Firefox not affected

Up until a few days ago both Brave and Firefox worked fine. Then when loading Brave computer would have several screen flashes of garbage then computer would lock up. Only way out was power cycle. I tried completely uninstalling Brave and then re-installing but sane problem. Firefox continues to work okay.

You are not the first person to bring up Brave browser causing computer crashes...

The Brave browser recently was reported to get an update, it is likely that update, that caused all this mess. If Firefox works, probably best to use that for now.

From a previous discussion, it might be due to GPU Acceleration in Brave, that is causing the issue.

Try to switch to Xorg if you use Wayland. Logout and at loginscreen click on your profile then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right. There select "Zorin Desktop on Xorg".

The way I fixed this was to login to Zorin using Xorg (you can switch this on the login screen, via the gear in the lower right of the screen), then once logged in, start Brave and goto Settings > System, and disable "Use graphics acceleration when available" (this will force a relaunch of the browser). Once this is done you can logout, switch back to Zorin Desktop (i.e. Wayland) and use Brave as normal.

Try in console:

brave-browser --disable-gpu

Then, in Brave Browser, unckeck the option "Use GPU acceleration" or something like that .

Thanks, Startreker. You have confirmed my suspicions. Suspect a recent os update may be the cause.
