Zorin os 16.3 lite not showing wireless internet and icon, just showing Ethernet

DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION
enp3s0 Ethernet unavailable —
lo loopback unmanaged —

I’m not sure if it’s a bcm wireless device I just see Ethernet controller: Broadcom inc. and that’s when I use lspci

Cpu: amd A8-5500B APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
Ram:

Also, in this video https://youtu.be/htx3c2xwL4g?feature=shared if u scroll near the end of the video and if u look at his taskbar on the bottom right u can see a little monitor icon with an x on it that’s the same thing I have

I have the same problem probably every two weeks. I just roll back with timeshift to the previous day and it works again. Not really sure, I think the Zorin or Kernel Updates mess with my drivers.

what version do u have? Mine is a zorin 16.3 lite

17 core

oh ok

Can you go to your BIOS and check the status of 'Secure Boot'?

(Disable it, if enabled)

I don’t have secure boot in my bios

This manual found on HP support website says Secure boot option is present in BIOS.

Ok I’ll see

I do see kernel support from Ubuntu and derivatives of 16.04 and 18.04, and then again with 22.04 - which Zorin 17 uses. Give the live bootable a try, open the live desktop (or 'try Zorin') and see if WiFi is recognized in settings. If not, bring up the Additional Drivers tab in your Software Updater settings to see if there are any available drivers on the live disk. That's usually my go-to way to see if devices work OOB. Sometimes doesn't work out though. .

Do you have the 'stock' keyboard that came with the computer? I'm also just wondering if there are any hardware switches, Fn buttons, combos, etc. that would turn the WiFi off / on..

Just another possibility.. Have you opened the tower to check the presence of a WiFi device?

That's the Ethernet port icon with an 'x' on it - just means nothing is connected. Just FYI

Oh that makes sense

I’m just using the keyboard that was with it when I went to collect it and the additional drivers thing shows nothing and I haven’t opened the tower I’m not sure where I would find a Wi-Fi presence also when u has zorin 15.3 that’s when I first got it, the Wi-Fi was working fine until I started getting some error so then I installed 16.3 lite and now I got no wireless Wi-Fi so I’m not sure

If the live bootable thing requires a usb I don’t got one anymore

Also eh I have no clue how to do that live bootable thing if it doesn’t require a usb that is and also I have no fn button but I do have f1 to f12

Gotcha - so, Zorin 15.3 is utilizing Ubuntu 18.04.5. That makes some sense though; I'm willing to bet it's the version, 20.04, that the kernel / wireless card doesn't like..

If you don't have any blank DVD's or USB's you can use - I would say maybe try installing newer kernel. FWIW I'm on 6.5 with Zorin 17 Core.. If it doesn't work out, you can always use Grub to go back to the previous kernel.

Was digging around, there may not be a Fn keyboard combo for WiFi - only thing I can think of other than that would be a physical switch somewhere on the tower but I'm positive you'd know about that.

Tricky.. but, didn't see the specific HP machine, the 6305, listed on the driver status site.. it may be untested, I can't find a lot of info or drivers for the rt2790 (only from the spec sheet).
